Don't know it. AMG has led me astray in the past though.

Just too lazy today for my 397th Queen defense. Also, my heart is never entirely in it. I feel obligated because my wife loved Queen and Freddie much like I suspect you feel/felt about Iggy, Billz.

They are not as bad as some people make them out to be, but certainly don't have any albums worth 5 stars in my book.

I'm just surprised you'd never heard it until now.

Steve.

The only Queen album I like all the way through.

(OK, maybe not "Love of My Life.")

'death on two legs' makes this album 5 stars

Oh, I've heard it plenty, it's been in the stacks for years. I threw it on today as a lark, and never remembered it being so atrocious, given the world seem to think it's Queen's crowning achievement. Give me "Jazz" any day of the week.

Granted, not the most horrible thing on the album, it's no "You're My Best Friend" (OOoh, you make heave), or "I'm In Love With My Car".

Sorry, no love for this sacred cow at all.

I've always thought News Of The World, A Day At The Races and A Night Of The Opera were supposed to be taken for what they are -- great silly fun by great silly fun musicians. The vocals and arrangements are still fabulous, but I don't think I'd judge most Queen albums up against "serious" artists. Queen were about grandeur, nudge-wink pomposity and trying out as many over-the-top takes on various musical styles as they could.

I'd give the album 5 stars, but 5 for how enjoyable it is, not for how deep it is.

I find that while I like a bunch of Queen songs, none of their albums completley hold together for me.

Are you kidding? I love the way it's all over the place. Starts right out of the gate rockin' with "Death on 2 Legs", then immediately shifts (grinds) gears to "Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon". "The Prophet Song" is completely under-rated, but I have to admit, I could probably survive if I never heard "Bohemian Rhapsody" ever again.

I've got three copies on vinyl. Love it, but not my favorite Queen album. But I'm a real sucker for their production values and the kitschiness of it all.

I can't believe what I'm reading! I thought this was going to be a thread on any album ever released by Deerhoof!

Just another one of those retardedly overblown '70s bands that made punk rock necessary.

You're My Best Friend is one of my least favorite songs ever. I'd rather listen to Creed than that song.

Can you really fault a band for being "retardedly overblown" when that was their intention in the first place?

It's like an Elton John record, only better. But not as good as a Bowie one. And that's probably what makes the record so off-putting, Mercury is trying so desperately hard to be Bowie, and the main thing he can add to the formula is by going more, more, more.

I can listen to it in the right mood. But AMG isn't the only one that considers it a classic, it was on the RS Top 500, for instance. I've never heard of a Queen fan that didn't consider it their best record.
