I had New Kids on the Block and Kris Kross, but I think the first CDs I bought and enjoyed without trying to be cool were Better Than Ezra Deluxe and the Verve Pipe Villians. I still like Better Than Ezra and 'The Freshmen' by the Verve Pipe.

Michael Jackson - Thriller

I know that I had some MiniPops tapes in grade 2... but my first real albums were:

Madonna - s/t (LP) (1983)
Cyndi Lauper - She's So Usual (1983, casette)
and
Michael Jackson - Thriller (1982)

With my own money:

INXS - Kick (1987)
George Michael - Faith (1987)
OST - Stand by Me (1986)

The Supremes, Where Did Our Love Go
It had just been released. I thought they were a chicana girl group out of East Los until I saw the pic on the cover.
