I do not recommend driving this distance by yourself, particularly over 3 days, although I did take some time off to visit the parents between the two marathon drives. However, with about 30 hours of driving, I did manage to listen to a lot of music.

I don't know why, I seemed to reach for a lot of 'classic' sounding stuff during the ride. Kings of Leon, Stones, Ryan Adams etc. Listened to his new double on the ride and thought it was pretty damn good. I found the prairies really pair well to My Morning Jacket and Neil Young. Over the north shore of Lake Superior, I decided The Tragically Hip's 'Up to Here' is a great album and I managed to get a renewed appreciation for it, despite being inundated by these songs for nearly 16 years. Fully Completely was also played a lot.

I also listened to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band for the first time, start to finish. I thought it horrendously overrated. I definitely don't get why this gets ranked amongst the "top" albumbs of the modern era. I listened to all of the late period Beatles and think that the White Album is the best. That or Revolver. And Magical Mystery Tour is pretty good too.

Biggest surprise was Shooter Jennings 'Let's Put the O Back in Country'. I played it about 4-5 times. Other albums I wasn't sure I'd enjoy was Elton John's 'Tumbleweed Connection'. Really great too. Also gave Martha Wainwright and Feist a couple of spins. Enjoyed them as well.

I like the lay of the land so far. It's quite different from Southern Ontario and I can't say I miss the smog.

Welcome home, Charlie!! Glad you made it safely across the country -- get settled in and take a huge load off. You deserve it.

Be sure to pick me up some genuine Saskatchewan sealskin bindings while you're there!

Anytime, Casa de Charlie is always rife with bbq and booze, although you may find it's a bit of a trek, I'm about 500 km from Calgary and about 650 km from Winnepeg. I'm thinking pop-ins are not going to be an issue, eh?
