I've intermittently heard tracks by Helium, and I've really liked everything that I've heard... Any album recommendations? Even better, can anyone hook me up with any of their albums?

Muchos gracias

oh, and a shout out to anyone who's as hungover at work as I am currently.

I'm listening to the Superball EP right now, it's the one thing of theirs that I already have, and it's good.

the pirate prude ep is my favorite, followed by the dirt of luck. their best song, however, is called lucy and i think it's only on some boston-type compilation.

she lost me after she started singing about fairies and castles and shit. i think she just released another solo album this year.

I hated the albums where she sang about "fairies and castles and shit," but her most recent solo album is quite good IMO. I was sold when I found out that Brendan Canty of Fugazi played drums on it.

Funny. I've had The Magic City for years and a friend recently lent me The Dirt of Luck which will be on tap for tomorrow.

i saw them as an opening band 5 or 6 times.

one time i saw her at a bar and didn't realize who she was. The whole night i was thinking i should talk to that really cute, but in my range girl. Later i realized that i was at a Polvo show, that she was dating Ash, and that she was not in my leauge.

moral of the story, (at least back in 95) she was REALLY cute in person.

yes! i had a huge crush on her.
my buddy and i saw her and ash get into a huge fight at the bar at the black cat in DC before the show. lots of screaming and mary got up and stormed outside. i almost went out after her to console her (yeah right).

Couldn't agree more with the first part but I still haven't listened to the newest stuff.

I agree with a lot of this. "Lucy" is flat out amazing--their best song. You can also find that on some Matador comp. It's just ahead of "#12 L'Enfant" from the Superball EP IMO. But I'd have to put Dirt of Luck at #1 overall, then probably Pirate Prude and Superball. Although I dont listen to The Magic City all that much, I dont think it's as bad as most make it out to be. Also not to be missed is No Guitars from the MC-period which is pretty sweet. I dont really listen to any of her post-Helium stuff though.

Natural Mike - Brendan doesn't play drums on the new MT record. It's actually Devin from Medications.

cb - Oops, you're right. I only have a copy from emusic, so I haven't checked out the liner notes. I think Brendan Canty produced it, which led to the confusion. The drumming had a familiar feel to it, and I'm a fan of both Medications and Fugazi, so there you go.
