I think ANYTHING produced by Albini is NOT surprising, since he has stated publically, on numerous occasions, that he is not above taking the occasional, big-bucks, major label job so that he can continue to afford to record the low/no-budget local and independent bands that he ENJOYS recording.

He is every bit the believer in the fact that every band should be able to afford to go into a studio and make a good-quality recording.

Yeah, the dude is outspoken and occasionally abrasive, but his heart is in the right place. I don't know him personally, but as far as his views on above matters are concerned: He's good people.

John Paul Jones & Butthole Surfers;

Gilby Clark & the Bronx;

Steve Albini & the Eclectics (it's ska-punk, for Chrissake; surely Steve must have some de minimis standard?);

Tom Morello & Anti-Flag (not so much politically, of course);

Dave Fridmann & Sleater-Kinney.

He didn't put the band name, so we'll let it slide this time. :wink:

Nick Lowe, Todd Rundgren, and Eno could have their own separate threads on this subject.

In retrospect it makes sense, but I don't think too many people would have put money on Jack White producing a Loretta Lynn album.

George Martin produced a bunch of diverse and good shit, from The Beatles to Classical, to Jazz, to the occasional schlock.

I mean, how many people have the ears to produce both Mahavishnu Orchestra, Ella Fitzgerald, America, Kate Bush, Kenny Rogers, and Celine Dion?

The dude who first used tape loops produces Celine Dion???

That was actually Razorblade Suitcase.

I don't know what I'm more ashamed of; the fact that I know that off the top of my head or the fact that I felt the need to call you on it.

Jon Brion vs. The Crystal Method

I can't wait to see if Outkast really gives Kate Bush a spin as a producer.

I don't find this odd at all, given that they were all in the Stiff fold at the time.
