Tom Petty/Dave Edmunds/Randy Newman produced by Jeff Lynne

(Not that I'm complaining, of course...)

Said it once & I'll say it again, they made their name making poppy as hell Hip Hop (Tone Loc, Young MC). This isn't the stretch people make it out to be.

Whodini produced by Thomas Dolby I think that's more of a strech since it was still kind of early in Hip Hop ('86)

And John King, one half of the Dust Brothers, produced the last Medeski Martin Wood album.

back in the 80's, I was familiar with Trevor Horn for his classic ZTT sound of Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Grace Jones, Art of Noise, Propaganda, et al.

So I was really surprised when he produced Rod Stewart.

In hindsight, not so much, but at the time, it was surprising.

What was even more surprising is that it didn't make me like Rod Stewart.

Speaking of Trevor Horn, how about producing and joining Yes!

Henry also is producing the Anti Records debut of another soul legend, Bettye Lavette due out this July. See news release here

There are two downloads available from on the same page. They sound great. This is a definite advance order for me.

Speaking of Albini -- not a "sell-out" production deal, but I was quite surprised when he did that Labradford record, fixed::context.

Yeah, in hindsight, that is pretty bizarre.

Yeah, in hindsight, that is pretty bizarre.

Bizarre in hindsight? It was bizarre from the word go - the modern day equivalent of Conor Oberst becoming lead singer/songwriter for Van Halen.

Well, I didn't know who Trevor Horn was at the time. I just got Drama, and all of a sudden this guy who was an adequate replacement for Jon Anderson was singing, but it was a pretty fantastic album, so it was okay by me.
