Can someone fill me in on what happened on tonight's episode? I, unfortunately, missed it.

-new character/crazy doctor said that the raft should have left yesterday because of the approaching monsoon season, so the raft is going to leave tomorrow
-we learn that the plane kate found in the suitcase episodes ago was from her childhood friend who she unintentionally got killed during some escapade at a hospital
-jack sees the hatch
-walt tells locke not to open the hatch cause he's all psychic and knows things like that
-walt told michael he was the one who torched the raft because he wanted to stay. michael said they'd stay.

i think that's about everything.

That part creeped me out. Walt's freaky statement: "Don't open it Mr Locke. Don't open that thing up." And ending with Michael telling Walt "We can stay if you want" and Walt replying "No...we can't". What the hell, man. I also liked Sayeed's comment that things without a handle are not meant to be opened.

I think it's going to be excellent over the next two weeks.

Shit, I'm gonna miss the next two weeks. I'll be on a transatlantic flight on Wednesday and I don't think "Lost" is shown in the UK just yet.

Kate is so hot, but DAMN is she fucked up!!! What is her deal??? I mean, when are we gonna find out why she got to be such a friggin' Bonnie without a Clyde? I wonder why her mom thought she was going to kill her.

Why didn't they just go ahead and name the show Myst?

last night was the first episode i watched, so yeah, i'm completely lost.
but damn is kate hot. holy crap.
i think i annoyed the hell out of my wife while trying to get her to catch me up to speed while we watched.
really good show...i'm sorry i missed 75% of the season.

No!! That sucks, T. You should have someone tape it and so you can watch immediately when you get back. On the upside though, at least you're missing it for a cool reason. And yeah, Lost is not yet shown over there, I've been telling my friend in the UK about it and he hadn't heard of it.

My theory: Kate killed her dad, which is why her mom freaked out when she saw her. Why? Because the tape she listened to with her ex in the car said something about always wanting to run away and hinted at some sort of family problems (I'm guessing abuse.)

And, yeah, she's hot as hell.

The fact that the Black Rock turned out to be a prison/merchant ship from England is Soooo.... unexpected.

You may be asking... how does he know that its a prison/merchant ship?

No gun ports. And for a three masted ship that big, from the era between 1770-1830 when it would have sailed, it's either a prison ship bound for Austrailia, a Merchant ship, or a whaler. I zoomed in on a screen shot I found online and it definitely says "Black Rock" with "Portsmouth" below it. That can only be England, who at the time this would have sailed, was a dominant force on the Seas, doing the vast majority of shipping to the Far East etc.

Someone's supposedly going to die . . . and it's most likely someone on the raft. "An adult male with hair" is what I read (paraphrased,) so it's not Walt, it's not the baby, and it's not Locke. Maybe it's the dog? I get the feeling Jin's days are done for, with the tying up of loose ends between him and Sun, and the tension between Sun and Michael.

Someone on a Lost message board pointed out that "Black Rock" was the name of a shipyard that was pretty well known in the colonial/revolutionary times.

Would a ship be named after a shipyard? I dunno.

So, the last episode was pretty good? Did it leaving you wanting more?

Well, yeah . . . it was only the first 1/3 of the three hour finale, so we really didn't get much in the way of answers (or new questions - you know that has to be inevitable with this show.) Next Wednesday, a two-hour episode, is sure to be pretty intense: we see what took the plane down, we see a tiny little bit of the island's "security system" (which I guess is a robot, from the sounds it makes?), "the others" come (and take Claire's baby?), the raft encounters "something shocking" at sea (and I suppose this is where whoever is going to die does so,) and the hatch gets opened. The ending is supposedly a complete shock - they're promising a "who shot JR" type of shocker that will leave everyone stunned all summer. So, yeah, I want more!
