This album always seems to grab a hold of me, no matter what the context, set, or setting I find myself.

The lyrics are vague enough, yet powerful enough, to just transform your interpretation to fit whatever it is that's on your mind at the time.

"That there
That's not me
I go
Where I please
I walk through walls
I float down the Liffey
I'm not here
This isn't happening
I'm not here
I'm not here"

"I have seen too much
I haven't seen enough
You haven't seen it
I'll laugh until my head comes off
Women and children first
And children first
And children"

"i'm on your side
nowhere to hide
trap doors that open
i spiral down
you're living in a fantasy
you're living in a fantasy
i'm lost at sea
don't bother me
i've lost my way
i've lost my way
you're living in a fantasy
you're living in a fantasy
you're living in a fantasy
in this beautiful world"

'red wine and sleeping pills
help me get back to your arms
cheap sex and sad films
help me get where i belong
i think you're crazy, maybe
i think you're crazy, maybe
stop sending letters
letters always get burned
it's not like the movies
they fed us on little white lies
i think you're crazy, maybe
i think you're crazy, maybe
i will see you in the next life
beautiful angel
pulled apart at birth
limbless and helpless
i can't even recognize you
i think you're crazy, maybe
i will see you in the next life"

I mean I practically just pasted the whole album into here. Motion Picture Soundtrack just absolutely rips me apart every time. When the harps come in on the second go-around, after the first was so beautiful that you couldn't possibly imagine that it could be more beautiful...but they do it anyway. then, one of the most impactful lyrics of the entire album, and maybe of radiohead's career emerge: "i think you're crazy, maybe/i will see you in the next life."

Do any other Radiohead songs make you feel so much emotion with so few lyrics (aside from say, pure instrumentals)?

I'm a believer. This is the best album made after/during the year 2000 in my opinion, and there are very few others that I might consider at all.

I know this certainly isn't anything that hasn't been said before, but damn. This album is doing exactly what I need for me at such a terrible time.

Great record but I still don't think it's in the same ballpark as OKC.

Kid A is my favourite. They're all great in their own ways, OKC is practically peerless, but if I had to vote today, it would be Kid A.

I don't find Kid A compelling at all. I'm not really a hater either. Now the bends on the other hand :D

Define compelling in this context.

To me, quite possibly the most overrated album of all time.

I still get it out every 6 months or so, thinking I've missed something, and it every time it sounds like glorified Muzak.

No, but it's a good album.

I really don't get the love for OK Computer, but then again, I haven't been able to find my copy in, like, millenia.

I'd like to hear it again.

wrong. Kid A and Bends are probably both in my top 10-15 albums of all time.

None of their other albums come close.

No, I actually like music I like because I like it, not because it's made by Radiohead.

Kid A is almost certainly a Top Ten album of this decade.

"you know you can edit this one into a poll"

i thought i had made it a poll originally, but i don't remember the choices i had. yes they were probably something like "yes" and/or "no", but it's too late for that now.

"Define compelling in this context."

I was waiting for this. I think m-w defines it as controlling or driving in an irresistible way, which it does for me every time.

"answer: NO

fuck if radiohead shit in a bag critics and their "fans" would love it to death, and think its the greatest album on earth."

i know it's kind of a copout, but pablo honey is really utter shite in my opinion. that's the radiohead album i may dust off once every couple of years and wonder. i could see it being cool at the time, but in retrospect it's just scaringly weak.

I was also trying to think of this from more of a lyrical standpoint for Radiohead's work. I really think this vague blanketed imagery is really more compelling in a lot of ways than the more verbose and direct words on say, OKC or the Bends.

What I think is really most astonishing about Kid A is how much they do with the music, how well the sounds they chose communicate what the lyrics are trying to say. Kid A is probably my favorite because of its dependence on a sonic landscape to paint the picture of the song rather than more blatant lyrical jabs.

I guess I was

I think this board knows where I stand on Radiohead.

I agree that Kid A is way overrated. I think it has some of Radiohead most interesting songs but as a whole it's no where near as great as OK Computer.

I don't think his question was "what's everyone's favorite Radiohead album, but rather is this the most compelling album of all time."

The backlash police are out today- they are a great band and Kid A is a great record.
