I would probably give up my blooming career in biology for a small organic farm / restaurant / brewery / winery / B&B close enough to the Maine coast that I could play in the tidepools every day. A pipe dream, but my best bet is the possibility of inheriting property in Boothbay Harbor someday. It's not that I have any illusions about Maine, or think that I won't be annoyed by the summer people . . . it's something deeper than that, something genetic, that is triggered in me by the Maine coastline and its corresponding tide chart that is written on the inside of my head.
They ain't no coastline up here.
I lived for a short time in York County - Wells, Ogunquit, York Beach area.
That I could handle. I've got relatives in St. George, NB and in Belfast, Camden and Bar Harbor. Real coastal towns, but I'm a good 150 miles north of the eastern Maine coast and more than twice that from the south coast.
If I stay in Maine, I'll move closer to the coast once I get a few more debts
whittled down.
