Headphones Release Debut, Tour with Labelmates Crystal Skulls
I know you, the regular here at TMT, have often asked yourself, "Where can I find an album that houses such tracks named oh, let's say 'Shit Talker' and um, how's about 'Hot Girls'?" Well, I'll tell you: You can find those songs, and eight others, on the self-titled, debut album from Headphones. Headphones are a group formed by Pedro the Lion's David Bazan and Tim Walsh and Starflyer 59's Frank Lenz. Recorded in early 2005 in Seattle, the album was released this past Tuesday, May 10th, on the Seattle-based Suicide Squeeze label. Unlike previous projects from the members of Headphones, this album was a challenge for each: no guitars (no joke!), minimal vocals, live drums, and a shitload of synthesizers. According to the label's website, Bazan maintains his familiar sense of songwriting on the new disc, but collectively the band treads uncharted ground, creating a debut that is "reminiscent of early records by Low." So, if you've been feeling a bit emo lately, you should probably invest in this record. Or, just buy it anyways because the concept sounds freaking sweet.
