What a strange show this is. Expending all that effort to cast these performers into a 1987 Adult Contemporary balladeer schlock-mode, when there's no radio market for that style of music.

These winners and runners-up (except Clay "Freak" Aiken) have to spend the next year or more following their Idol appearances reworking their sound to something radio will touch.

For every successful Kelly Clarkson, there's a boatload of earnest twerps who can't make the transition.

I'm sorry but the three that are left aren't bad. Honestly they really are the only three in the competition that can sing. So at least they got it right this time.

Why do the hearing impaired get a vote anyway?

The only time I like to watch this show is when it's really early in the season, and they show all these people who absolutely suck and insist they are the best thing out there. It makes me laugh.

Thanks, now I have Devo stuck in my head.

No, seriously, thanks. I like that song a lot. Great bassline.

i watched every episode this season. oh well. i was interested again.

the person who was the best, was Nadia Turner, the black girl who had the afro, who got voted off early. she was a diva. So i'm actually ok with the fact she got voted off, because winning this contest would ruin her. She was funky as shit though.

Anyway, I don't care who wins. I think Bo will win, but he will make music with a degree of shittiness that compares to Uncle Kracker, so eh. It's a shame too. He could probably do some decent adult contemp. stuff.

Constantine should've won. America sucks for not knowing talent when they see it.

there has only been three winners and they have all had hits in rotation.
last years winner has had a song in Hot 97's top 25 for a few months.

I actually watched an episode this season. I wanted Scott, the self-righteous thug to win just because he would have been the end of American Idol. I voted for him like 15 times. He lost a couple of weeks ago I hear.

There have also been runners-up and second runner-up and many, many others who have tried to used Idol as a career-boosts.

The winners and runners-up who have had more than one hit have had to put in a lot of work changing their sound and style in order to make it on radio. Aiken has yet to have a big radio hit, though he's sold a lot of records and singles. Studdard has not crossed formats past Urban AC anywhere near as much as was expected. Several contestants from the first season who were predicted to become breakout stars are nearly forgotten already.

Clarkson has been the big success story. Locke is still working on it. But others? Degarmo? Guarini? Barrino? Still trying. Still trying.
