If you cannot respond to this topic, you need to remedy that situation, POST-HASTE!

Any of y'all on YSI have Newell stuff to share with out less-fortunate bretheren?

My favorite:
"Albion's Daughter"

We need a poll on this. And we need it posted as a new topic.

I've made Newell comps before, but I'm not wired into the YSI/SLSK deal. That said, I've got just about everything the man's done (including a much-cherished copy of "Young Jobless", his first single). PM me if you want a primer.

File Martin Newell under 'I Keep Meaning To Check Him Out But Never Get Round To It'.

Cleaners From Venus - Golden Cleaners
Martin Newell with Andy Partridge - The Greatest Living Englishman
Martin Newell - Let's Kiosk! (EP)

Or just order some stuff from Joachim at www.JarMusic.com
Nice guy running a label for all the right reasons.

Cherry Red has put out a couple comps. The easiest thing to find is probably "The Greatest Living Englishman" which he did with Andy Partridge (Capt. Sensible also played a hand, as he's done on a number of his records). It's an excellent starting point, there's not a weak song on it, and it includes some of his best.

If you can find the Brotherhood Of Lizards disc, buy it at any price. "Market Day", "Dandelion Marine", "It Could Have Been Cheryl", "World Strikes One", "Clockwork Train" are fantastic.

"The Light Programme" is the album he released late last year, it's much quieter, with almost a jazz/lounge feel. I love it, but it might not be the best place to start.

Good luck!

Todd's right. Joachim at Jar Music should be supported at all costs. He's got the entire Cleaners catalogue available, and he's not raping anyone. You get the original cassette plus a number of live bonus tracks on each one. They're not expensive, only about $10 each if memory serves, and the postage from Germany is not too exorbitant.

The only drawback is that the cassettes transferred to CD with one side equalling one track, so you can't "skip track" to get to individual songs. A minor inconvenience when making mixes.
