 Post subject: nmr: my back hurts

I lifted some heavy shit at work and tweaked my back. I've been mostly lying on the floor and and listening to tunes since I got home. I'm still aching like a motherfucker...any suggestions on streching or remedies for back pains. Some guy at work told me to sleep on the floor tonight, and I am so not doing that.

Moist heat whether a hot shower, a bath or a heating pad helps. But give it some rest. If its bothering you tomorrow, trying some light stretching but if you feel pain stop. Sounds like its obvious, but still worth saying.

When I fell off my bike, landed on my closed fist, it felt like I had broken some ribs.

After the doc ascertained nothing was broken, he gave me 800mg tablets of ibuprofen. Most ibuprofen is 200mg, so take 4 of these.

Don't be drinking, tho.

I feel your pain. Sort of.

Sheeeit. I tore a bunch of ligaments and shit in my hand in a high school football game mid-season and would take 12-15 Advil before the games to take the edge off the hand that was about to get knocked around for a few hours.

i have a pretty messed up back....goes out once or twice a year....

before actually going to the doctor, i would use a heating pad and do the whole damp heat thing.....

when i actually when to the doctor he told me NOT to do heat....but to ice it......

the heat is actually going to make shit in your back expand and you want it to contract (via ice). contracting shit will make it heal/go back to where it should easier.....

also some type of muscle relaxers....doans back pills or alcohol...but do not mix em....trust me you might end up sleeping on the floor

i had back surgery back when i was 22.

stretch out your hamstrings a lot.
try stretching your back every now and then.

Sleep on the floor.
Sit in a comfortable chair with good support, and don't get up a lot, because each time you get up you aggrevate the back gods.

take advil, it's an anti-inflamatorry as well as pain reducer.

call in sick tomorrow ;)

i hurt my back about 2 weeks ago and got some muscle relaxants and anti-inflammatories from my doctor and took a week off of work.

I have always had a bad lower back, & a couple years ago I tweaked it BAD. We're talking screaming-while-trying-to-cross-the-room bad...& this is from someone with a really high tolerance for physical pain.

The doctor gave me a stretching exercise that helped then, & has helped ever since. I still do it every nite before going to sleep.

Start out lying completely flat on your bed. Bring one of your knees up to your chest with your hands ( but don't really PULL...just use your hands to hold the knee there ) , & then hold it there for about 5-10 seconds. Then do the other leg the same way. Do both legs 5 times each.

Takes about 2-3 minutes, tops. They actually recommend that you do it in the morning AND at nite.

And try to get some of those muscle relaxers. That's good stuff right there.

i messed my lower back up real bad too, about a year and a half ago playing indoor soccer. hasn't been the same since.

scottycash is correct, do not use heat at first. when you first injure your back you want to ice it a ton. once the inflammation goes down, then it is ok to alternate ice and heat.

and stretching and building up your ab's is the best thing you can do for a back. i do the same stretch DDawg talked about every morning, plus 2 others. and i stretch my hamstrings probably 6-7 times a day.

mine is still fucked up though, and it's really getting to me lately as I can't really exercise. i've gone to 2 different chiropractors and now i'm seeing an accupuncturist.

i'm coming to the realization that i'll probably be living with some kind of pain for the rest of my life.

Go to doctor. Tell them you already took 3 aleves and it still hurts. That will keep them from giving you a naproxen perscription. Get Loritab. Partying ensues.
