Ees very good. If you like it, you need the EP. "Headlights look like diamonds" is their best song. Welcome to our obner, e-stan!

Definitely Top 5 for me.

Count me in. Very fine group of songs - adventurous but tuneful, and it hangs together extremely well as an album. Love that rousing Disco Inferno "Burn Baby Burn" chorus rip on "Rebellion (Lies)". Great song that can get stuck on infinite repeat in my head for days. And the "Neighborhood" suite that opens the CD is beautifully performed, passionate, emotional music with highly evocative lyrics (though admittedly, also occasionally a little silly and underdeveloped). "Neighborhood 3 (Power Out)" is probably my favorite on the album after "Rebellion (Lies)". Definitely in contention for one of the top indie albums of the year at this point, but some of the initial charm also wore off after a while for me. Just have to wait and see what I think of it in the next month or so to find out if it has any legs. Be fun to see what they do next. Fun to see where Broken Social Scene goes next too.

I finally heard it for the first time on the way to work this morning, and it was actually better than I was expecting. I hear a pretty wide-ranging sphere of influences throughout. Good stuff. I'm not sure it's quite the be-all, end-all some are making it out to be, but it's definitely worth a listen.

It's one of those things where I know I should like it, but it hasn't made a big impression on me yet like I was hoping it would. This is def. not top 10 fodder for me, but I'll bet it's top-10-bands-to-get-snapped-up-by-a-major-label-for-a-rerelease fodder...

Definitely Top 10 material. I don't think it'll be in Top 5.

Liz!
Nice to see you.

Re: the topic at hand, I think that I need to hear this. I like the song I have heard.

The Arcade Fire is this year's Wrens. And I don't mean that in a they rule or they suck way; I mean that flashing your appreciation for Funeral has become the 2004 indie clubhouse equivalent of the Costco membership card. I haven't really listened to the album yet, but my warning sensors are flickering: bulk shoppers tend to buy bland.

Agreed on the EP, but don't you think "Headlights" is prettily shittily recorded? I do. And as such, I think there are better tracks on the album: "Submarine", eg.

Funeral is good enough to be in my year's top 10. I've said enough about this band in the past.

np: TTC "Batards Sensibles"

Yeah, I love "Sleeping in a Submarine".

The production value of the EP isn't so great, but it does have some really nice songs.
