I saw this in the theater and hated it. It's like Fellini's Amarcord, only very amateur and somehow more vulgar. It strains itself to get to its final points, and everything in the movie is so overdramatic and obvious in intention. The dialogue is very heavy on things like, "This is wartime, no one can afford to buy a bicycle."

Some other films I'd throw around for this topic: The 400 Blows, If..., The Last Picture Show, American Graffiti, Welcome to the Dollhouse, Y Tu Mama Tambien.

P.S., the main nude scene of Monica's isn't one you'll likely be aroused by.
