See, Charlie, that's why you and I get along...cuz I tend to do the same. I think I'm taking about 50-60 CDs with me.

And, Pilates, me being braless is NOT a good idea.

Yeah, I'm always prepared. You should have seen my front seat, a bloody mess of cds, cigarette packs, Diet Pepsi, and about 20 packs of Xtra gum. I actually think I had about that amount too, about 50 cds or so. Weird. No Pilates though....By the way, is the moratorium on booze over yet?!

Pilates = splates. I like to call him "Pilates". Hehe!

20 packs of Xtra gum? Should I ask?

And, nope...moratorium is still going strong. I'm gonna be some cheap ass date when I arrive in Scotland. I plan on returning an alcoholic, though, so there is hope for me. ;)

Ha! I was gonna say, what's up with bring a workout thingie on your trip? My bad. You are gonna be a cheap date! Mind you all that UK beer is pretty low alcohol if I'm not mistaken. I think you'll be alllll rigghhht!

i have the opposite problem.

I have a problem finding sexy black bras in my size. I think there's a secret cult of women who buy up all the sexy ones and leave only the teeny tiny ones left on the rack.

Au contraire, mon frere, UK beer has a higher alcohol level than American beer. Two pints in and I'll be fucked up! Ok, maybe three pints.

I always get confused about this, US beer is pretty low then, right? Canadian beer is pretty high, I think, running around 5-7%. Is UK beer the same? Either way, good times ahead for you.

Oooh, I've just done some quick research and you're right! Here's what I learned:

Quote:
As a guideline, typical American beers (lagers) are generally 3.6 to 3.8% by weight (approx. 4.5 to 4.7 by volume), although, as mentioned, some states mandate a 3.2 beer by weight (4% by volume). A "light" beer, on the other hand, is between 2.3 and 3.2% by weight (2.8 - 4% by volume).

Since the terms lager, ale and stout do not use the word "beer," their alcohol content is initially impossible to estimate.** However, the shocker is that many British lagers are only 2.6 -3.2 (3.2 - 3.9% by volume), and British bitters, porters, and stouts are generally 2.8 - 3.2 (3.5 - 4% by volume) while British premium lagers and British special bitters are 3.2 - 3.9. No wonder Britain is noted for its phenominal consumption of beer; at that strength one can consume a good many "pints" in a social atmosphere without being totally inebriated.

Obtained from here -- http://www.csulb.edu/~parayner/Alcohol.html

For some reason, I remember reading on the label that the alcohol content was much higher in British beers/lagers/ales. I'm gonna have to read the labels more closely when I get over there.

Stick to Chimay, Corsendonk, Framboise Lambic, and other beers of Belgian origin. typically 8.5-10% by vol. Yay alcohol.

Yeah, that's what I thought my friend in the UK told me. Basically that I'm gonna lose my shirt if I start drinking pints over there. I'm used to beers that are about 2x the alcohol content, so it'll be expensive as hell for me to get good and loaded.

Thanks for that link, that's good info.

I found this cool site that provides the alcohol content on a lot of beers: http://www.realbeer.com/edu/health/calories.php . Who would've known that a Sam Adams beer would have over 17%?

They sure short change Canadian beer. I see Labatt Blue is the only thing listed. Good lord.

Ooooh, Ficky, you really should get some of their stuff. If you'd like, I can make ya some copies -- it'll have to wait until I return from Scotland, though.

that'd be great! when are you leaving for scotland?

on an unrelated note, apparently i come up as invisible here. i kind of like that. also, 'kicking and sceaming' (the noah baumbach movie, not the soccer one) is the best movie ever made.
