Right. He doesn't say anything particulary ground breaking in the brief interview, but I'm not sure he needs to.

Being told how smart and great your are is one thing, but when people throw insane amounts of money at you as well, that's gotta fuck with your head, assuming you have any shred of humility at all.

Plus, writing any sort of humor is fucking difficult. I was picked to write this satirical/sarcastic/humorous column for the dinky high school paper back in the day. After the first two, which went smoothly, nothing sounded particularly funny anymore

Not necessarily. Shit material is shit material no matter how well you deliver it. I'd rate it 50/50

Delivery is important if the material relies on absurd mannerisms, props, insults or family material.

For instance, I want to kill Carrot Top when he's in commercials, but only want to maim him when he does standup. Sinbad and Bill Cosby are all about delivery. Their actual material is just sweet, well-written, but sweet. It's the facial expressions and characterizations that make them funny. Emo Phillips one-liners wouldn't have been effective done with normal mannerisms.
Steve Martin's early standup, though absurd, was really ordinary, but his delivery wasn't. Andy Kaufmann was more than 90-percent delivery.

At least half of all comedians who do urban fuck-you humor are all about mannerism and deliver, not about material. Dirty-joke comedians, too.

Being visually funny makes a big difference - Ralphie May and Eddie Izzard, for instance.

even super over the top dry dudes are all about delivery, like the two obvious ones who's names i cna't think of right now.

Although the way Mitch Hedburg talks is funny and can correlate to delivery, I can just read his jokes and laugh. Maybe it's because I have heard him say them, but I am not too sure on that.

when i read his jokes i totally hear his delivery and can see his slouche and smirk in my head. . . sigh. RIP.
