yea, they're just a solid pop-rock band, who gets bonus points for Grohl's likeability...I like'em fine, but nothing that I'm gonna get too excited about, one way or another

I can't get down with the better-than-Nirvana thing though

Understanding mental illness is dealing with it shawty; You wanna school ME on fucking mental illness? Bring it.....I dare your buster ass.

The "sum of my comments" is that i have no respect for people that disrespect themselves. But I'm applauding your descision to deify sissies. Its a big step for you I'm sure....... :wanker:

did you mean to post this on hipinion?

just curious....because this was about the music, but when you could not further support your opinion you started to attack the artist as an individual. when that failed you, you started attacking me.

you done done it to yourself homey. Unless you have personal knowledge of mental illness or the junky lifestryle, i have no use for your comments. I mean really Scotty, yall had HADDA had known that yall had caught the wrong train on this one from the station so WTF?

I honestly dont care one way or the other about whether you think Nirvana/Fo are better etcets; but to deify Junkies is to enable a new race of them---you should know better b/c i gu-RON-tee you have dealt with Junkyism on some level.......

OH, AND FOOS OWN NIRVANA

1. i have never deified curt cobain - defending someone with serious issues is not deification its empathy
2. i do have personal first hand knowlege of both mental illness and addiction
3. this is about music, and the fact that you have to degrade an artist to make a case for another is silly

It was the Nirvana haters that even brought them up in this thread.

It's cool though. Now when you start your "Blink 182 are way better than the Clash!" thread I'll know that I can ignore you.

And Nirvana and Foo don't sound alike. Listen to Aneurysm, Even in His Youth, Milk It. Nirvana don't sound like any of the bands they often get blamed for creating.

My opinion: Nirvana get overrated as far as creating a new genre, because they don't sound like anyone in that genre.

But their music itself gets underrated.

the original declaration was that the foo fighters were better than nivrana....

then it became....curt cobain is a junkie that couldnt handle his problems....

the first is about music, the second is not....

as a 7th grader i fell in love with their first album the year it came out. i listened to it all summer. i'd say it's still my favorite. next one i enjoyed quite a bit as well. i bought the self-titled album but kind of pushed it aside and never really listened to it. same goes for the last one. i guess i just didn't find them as interesting.

yeah, i didnt take it there SC, it just went there......i can separate the two, but everybody else in the world seems to want to connect Kurt Cobain the man and Kurt Cobain the artist/musician.............not me.....

and my opinion on cobain is that he was a good musician/songwriter but i don't think he deserves the genius tag.

I like Foo Fighters more than just about anything else heard on commercial radio these days, but I didn't dig their last album.

Commercial radio needs acts like Foo Fighters and Jimmy Eat World. They're high quality gateway bands to indie discovery the way that bands like INXS and Soundgarden were to kids when some of us were a little younger.

Leave it to Spoon to stay above it and (try to) keep the thread on-target.

Good reading here, folks. The claws were out for a bit there.

Grohl isn't in the same boat as Nirvana, and that's no accident. Bloor speaks correctly in that for Grohl it's a job (a job he loves, and is damn good at), whereas for Curt it was a life raft, and a raft with holes in it at that. But walk away from it for a bit, and then listen without thinking about the behind-the-scenes. I listen to Foo 8000% more than Nirvana, and I enjoy both a great deal. I thought American History X was a gripping, ground-breaking film in a lot of ways, but I've damn sure seen Napoleon Dynamite a lot more, and shall continue to do so. Which is the "better" film? There-in lies the problem with you argue-happy sissies... it all depends on how you mean the question.

Very confusing[/quote]
