Practically all of Boogie Nights is made of wonderful little moments.

During their visit to the Rahad's mansion, Dirk's long vacant stare after the Russian Roulette bit while Sister Christian blasts in the background. I always imagine that is his moment of clarity "how the fuck did it all come to this..."

Rollergirl and Amber coked out of their minds in the bedroom..."let's go for a walk!"..."OK!"...."I don't want to leave this room though"...."ME NEITHER!"

Dirk and Reed listening to the playback of their song, "Do you think the bass is taking away from my vocals?"

Jack's growing disenchantment and disillusionment with his "films" after the Colonel goes to jail and Floyd is his new backer and Johnny Doe is his new boy.

"Is he gonna fuck me in the ass?"

"Is that what you want?"

"It'd be nice...."

"Fuck her in the ass...."

But more poignant, as he walks through the warehouse filled with thousands of videotapes being mass produced, he goes in to see Kurt in the editing room. "How is it?" and Kurt's reply: "It is what it is..."

My favourite movie of all time.

I love this movie. It is Goodfellas in the world of porn.
I like it when they are openly coked out, waiting for dude to come back with more, and he comes in and they start chopping out lines, and dude says "No man, it's meth, not coke, just do bumps, not lines"
and Wahlberg says "Thanks, Dad" and knocks back a monster.

from Almost Famous

after they have that big fight over the T-Shirt and they all leave the room, William sneaks back and grabs the argued over t-shirt and shoves it into his bag. Illustrating perfectly that above all, he is a fan.

and no matter how many times i see it, i still get chills during "tiny dancer" when she says, "poof . . . you are home"

Isn't that a lot of movies and books are? I fucking love this movie, and I think that's a weird way to knock it, but I guess you are a damn ol weirdo ;)

well, i thought that the characters were really static and simple as well. the good characters stay good and the flawed characters stay flawed and there's not much in between. i think that if the audience, like me, lacks the requisite nostalgia for that era and the music then there's not much else going for it, really.

Goodfellas could be this whole thread:

A personal fav. When they find out that Tommy has gotten wacked, DeNiro is crying, freaking out, kicks over a phone booth, and Henry is just sorta standing there. NO FREAKING EMOTION WHATSOEVER!!!!

In Oceans Eleven when Elliot Gould is describng the people who tried to rip off casinos, "Fucking hippy" followed by the "Take My Breath Away" scene of theguy getting shot..

I think it's nearly a perfect movie with so many great moments, but one of my favourites is Henry's coked out face in the entire screen after he does a line with Mannish Boy cranked up high. Cocaine.... Not a great choice.

The other is Jimmy at the bar, just smoking and watching his guys and contemplating (I guess) which of his crew he's gonna whack next, while Sunshine of Your Love is blaring in the background. It's a small moment, but pretty powerful.

Just the first line in the movie is another: Ever since I could remember I always wanted to be a gangster...cue Rags to Riches. Perfect.

Carlos Jacott kareokeing "Beautiful Dreamer" in Highball

My favorite line from that movie was Gould's:

"FIRST he'll kill ya. THEN, he'll go to work on ya!"

Word DJ; another great one is when they wack Billy Batts (ok that whole scene is a thread, De Niro doing the "windmill" with his arm while he kicks the shit out of Batts, etc) when Donovan's "Across The Ocean" (i guess thats the name of that song) kicks in.

And i cant believe Dave hasnt mentioned the Layla piano exit scene, particularly Carbonne's dead ass frozen solid in the meat truck.....

pretty much every little moment between Mr. Hand and Spicoli, but a few favorites: - when he walks in with the begal in his pants - when he's first walks in the room and points "Hey i know that guy" - that incredible moment before the pizza comes and Mr. Hand pauses mid sentece to see Sicoli's silly grin

and on and on and on.
