I might agree with you had I heard it more recently. After white boy hiphop (Tribe, Beasties, Pharcyde etc.), Panic CD's have always been the most likely to disapear for some reason...

Anybody else think that Space Wrangler actually sounds like a different band than the subsequent studio albums? I guess the difference is that it is pre JoJo so the keys are way less pronounced and less boogie woogie. Als oit is before Hauser (RIP) developed that guitar tone. Frankly, Hausers guitar tone was always the most annoying part of WSP especially live. It kinda all sounds the same.

Kinda had a reassesment and deeper appreciation after he died.

I mean, on their debut, they covered the Talking Heads "Heaven" and John Cale's "Travelin' Light"

That would be JJ Cale's "Travelin' Light"

I've had their music forced down my throat since 1990. That ended in 2000, when I swore I'd never listen to them again.
Their fans are little Bushites for the most part. I've seen them live 4 times, and though they blew ass everytime. I always thought their records were very meh. They peaked with Everyday, and that was 11 years ago.

True. Best to let it go, my friend. While we're on the topic.... You should buy the JJ Cale Anthology and get learnt, fool.
Dude is SERIOUSLY underrated. It was cool that WSP gave him some cred by covering his stuff, but most of the WSP fans I've been associated with thought those songs were originals. They also covered "Ride Me High" by JJ Cale.

no they don't. shut the fuck up. every real Spreadhead owns that JJ Cale anthology (ive heard it a million times btw); weird how the originals of those songs sound.

Always enjoyed Panic's covers of No Sugar Tonight and Ophelia as well.

Sometimes i feel like really great musicians get together with other really great musicians, and instead of synergy, you got a hot mess.

There's a real art to being a bandmember, and there's real skill required to lead a band, and every good band i've been has good bandmembers and strong leadership.

Alot of the best (technically speaking) musicians I've met/known/seen are from my least favorite genres... jam/pop country/metal

It's my belief that they are so dedicated to the art of playing that their songcraft suffers.

I gotta disagree with you on this one good buddy. I'll leave your earlier post alone but the songwriting in this band is very personal (JB writes most of the tunes, JOJO gets his one song an album, and now drummer dude gets his one as well)

JB is a legit singer-songwriter. Panic is all about interpretation of people's songs.

I didn't specify Panic as weak songwriters. For their genre, they're better than most. I was just talking about musicians in genres where there's a high level of technical expertise.

Liquid Soul has great players and weak songs. So does Dream Theater, etc... etc...

Some people really get off on a great long solo (audience members, I mean). I don't. Unless it's an earth shatteringly transcendent solo. Others get off on a concise song packed with meaning (i sure do). I don't think you could call WSP's songs concise.

S'all I'm saying.

So how are their live shows? I am going to see them at Red Rocks for a friend's birthday.
