Now I know -- from my new internet boyfriend, tinymixtapes.com:

Travis Morrison Takes the High Road

I do not envy Travis Morrison. When his former band The Dismemberment Plan finally dismembered itself in 2003, they had amassed a rather large following, some pretty excellent albums, and a lot of momentum. At one point, they were even named a "band to watch" by Spin magazine! Now if that doesn't portend big things, I don't know what does!

Now, Uncle T. has the unfortunate task of starting all over again playing shitty little clubs to handfuls of people, a far cry from the throngs that greeted the Plan on their goodbye tour. After last year's Travistan [TMT Review] made it painfully clear that Morrison was moving on from the Plan's signature sound, he is left with the daunting task of making everyone believe that his solo direction is worth their time. Perhaps the live show is the feather in Morrison's cap. Folks east of the Mighty Missisip' will get a chance to find out when Travis and his live band, the newly dubbed "Hellfighters," set out this June on a string of dates. The tour is a prelude to Morrison and the Hellfighters heading into the studio in July to record Morrison's second post-Plan record with Chris Walla of Death Cab for OC- er, I mean Cutie- fame. According to Morrison's website, working titles for the album include Star Sapphire, Breakfast Lunch And Dinner, me gusta tu fruitcake, and, my personal favorite, Go Fuck Yourself. I can just hear it now:

Mom: Hey Billy, what is that racket your listening to?
Billy: Go Fuck Yourself, Mom!

Get me off of this coin, eh:

I'd rather hear about what the other dudes from DP are doing . . . Travis is the only one that I've heard about. I didn't think his album was that bad (but the four "Get Me Off Of This Coin" truly are as bad as everyone says) but it was, overall, not all that interesting. Not offensive but not interesting either = trade back to get something either more offensive or more interesting. I'm going to make an awesome dad. "Hey kids, who wants to hear some Slayer?"

1 or 2 of the others were in a really bad band called Maritime with members of the Promise Ring.

Travis needs a backing band for quality control purposes. Hopefully these new guys will keep him from releasing the Weird Al/TMBG-type crap that tainted his solo debut.

Just Eric is in that crappy band.

I think the other 2 guys are either working or going to school.
