 Post subject: Wanting to buy a DVD burner - Need advice

So, Im gonna go buy a DVD burner. but i dont know what Im loking to buy exactly....

Im not really looking to spend mor ethen 100-125 bux if possible?

what should i look for?
recording speed? burning speed? etc?

whats the best software to use?

ive got an internal but I was actually looking last week for an external to archive my security camera HD;

I saw two different models of DVD burner at Sams Club for 99 bucks!

Accept no imitators.

The fastest they get right now is 16x. Looks like there are plenty available for like $50:

...although to get one this cheap you'll have to steal software separately.

(Chosen based on a quick Google of "best dvd burners" returning this article)

Yeah, sorry, forgot to mention i got the price at pricewatch. Basically, my MO on something like this is to search out reviews/lists of the best of whatever device I'm looking for, then get the best price for the one I pick on Pricewatch.

im not up on the cost of burners, but i'd look into a dual layer burner also...

Plextor drives are excellent, but an NEC like the one that HAQ linked to will work perfectly for everything the average user (which I'm assuming you are) would want to do.


shiv, every dvd burner also does cds, but they're usually a little slower.

Also keep in mind that a 16x DVD burner is not the same speed as a 16x CD burner. A 16x DVD burner has about the same data transfer rate as a 52x CD burner. 16x and 52x are about the maximum technologically achievable.
