I'm just below someone like Billz on my Ike Reilly man-love, but I gotta say I really enjoy Cracker's version of "Duty Free" a bit better. Despite Lowery mangling/reinventeing the lyrics he does a tempo thing is nice. And the accordion. And the harmonies.

Funny, I also like Lowery's version of "Sinaloa Cowboys" better than the Springsteen original as well. Its a really deep, emotional song and i typically love Bruce's delivery on something like this but I really like Crackers' delivery. Its a little mocking, whereas Bruce is almost too serious.'

Tough call. Gotta go with Ike, if only 'cuz his original was the first version I heard. Cracker do him proud, though.

Cracker is like kissing your sister.

Edit: That said, I give 'em props for picking a killer tune to cover.

Yeah, any background on the connection or how the fuck Lowery found this track would be appreciated.

BTW, I knew that Bilz, Rads, and the Sen. would be the only to weigh in this thread.

[How did I miss this? You even told me about it.]

I take Ike, partly because he was first, but also because the rest of that Cracker disc bothers me.

well, I'm doing things bassackwards and I just got around to hearing Salesmen and Racists this week, after having the other one for 8 months or so...as result I've only heard Ike's version a couple of times...and I've only heard the Cracker version once

still voted though

Why? I think it rulz.

Having heard the Cracker version first, I was partial to it for some time, then came around to the Ike version, mainly because top to bottom that album kicks so much ass its still almost unbelievable to me.

But, I love the Cracker version. The shambolic groove, the mangled lyrics, the Jackson Herring (WHO THE FUCK IS HE?!!?) references. The lines "stiffs outta the Shannon," and ""He said he t hought it was valet parking for the Holiday Inn Express."
