I very briefly Googled "Punta music" today looking for information. I was talking to a girl from Guatemala last night at the LCD Soundsystem show and we were talking Latin music. She said I must look into a genre simply known as "punta". She couldn't describe it to me, but said it's heavy on drums and when people dance to it they just use their hips.

I gathered it stems from the Caribbean with Central America being the big player, supposedly Honduras. Anyone know anything? Billy?

I can't say I have any first hand knowledge of it. Googling it seemed to bring up plenty of sites though. Clicking on a few streams, it seems to have a lot in common with Soca and Dancehall, genres I'm not that fond of.

If you find anything interesting though, pass along the info.

np: Fairport Convention "Liege and Life"
