Pop is actually the u2 album I return to the most, but like the band, I agree that there is room for improvement. Of course, that doesn't mean I would never again listen to the "imperfect" version should they remake the album. But I'd be very interested in hearing what they believe to be the improved version. Hell, anything would be better than another Atomic Bomb, which I found to be dissappointing.

U2 made nothing off of their Ipod-related antics last year. They simply did it to do it. It was a smart move, IMO - they got their name associated with one of the most "important" electronic items in the modern world right now. "Sell out" would indicate some monetary gain in exchange for the band's integrity - I see no such thing in this case.

There certainly was plenty of monetary gain, but it didn't occur until the commercials began airing - the increased exposure helped to move plenty of units of that steaming pile Atomic Bomb. Advertising can have a powerful influence on buying decisions.

Steaming pile.

Huh.

I think it's all right.

Kinda just a little steaming. Not like 30 day old corpse in the landfill steaming.

More like gym shorts by the hamper.

the record was released in an unfinished and unsatisfactory state due to touring commitments.

Rush the album out, even though we know it sucks.

Seems like a sell-out to me.

Not if they're going to make it sound like the last two albums. Pop is the last good U2 album in my opinion. Probably the last good one they'll ever make.

Agreed 100%

I'm too lazy to write out my own arguments so I'll just agree with Haq.

Why? It sucked the first time, and I don't think it's the performances or the recording (In his best Ben Stein: that leaves...anyone...anyone? The writing...)
