Nice, all. Very nice. But there's more out there, for sure. Don't be afraid to go 80's soul / r+b... 'ol Busty can melt a pair of panties at 30 yards when he gets the voice warmed up proper.

Just got in from putting up flyers. E-Fu, you can have the brain back now.

We've done that one, though Solitary Man is more of a regular. We should do it more often.

From Gordon Lightfoot, we've done Sundown, but not that one yet. Carefree Highway is tempting, too.

Oh shit, you guys should do a duet...

Serge Gainsbourg, "Je T'Aime Moi Non Plus"

"Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves" ain't a duet, but it would be fucking funny.

Is that the one Sonny and Cher did? If so, it would be VERY funny. Hard to actually get through without cracking up, even. Speaking of, there was a lot of ... er.. "talent" there last week. It was a female bartender's going away party, and most of her friends / roomates were there, so there were so loooow cut jeans / tops being flaunted about. In the midst of "And She Was," Busty changes "And things were lookin like a movie" to "And I was lookin at your boobies" right as a girl was walking by. I seriously almost fell out of my stool. It was just so perfectly timed.

What they choose to do on a stage in front of paying customers is none of my bidness.

Thomas Dolby's "She Blinded Me With Science" would be a helluva thing to do if you could work it out.

That is a brilliant observation! Damn, that would be awesome. Makes me want a drummer for the millionth time, though.

I've been playing solo/acoustic for a long time now. And even with HoP, I still play mostly this way. So, I've had a lot of time to think about these things.

Right now, I'm trying to work out a version of Billy Squier's "Everybody Wants You", also. So there's another idea for ya.

... I am a HUGE Squier fan, for a guy who owns none of his material. Favorite male vocalist of the 80's, bar none. If that stupid Rock Me Through The Night hadn't derailed him, he could've been unstoppable.

Seems to me the only limits on some of these songs is how well they can be carried by just 2 guitars. Oh, and a note about that... I do run mine through an amp as well as the PA. The path for my guitar is first into a Mesa V-Twin (either bypassed or sometimes on mild distortion for color, like for Hungry Like The Wolf), then an AB box with switches for each output, always both on, then a fender vibrolux reverb reissue on one end and the PA on the other. The amp gives mine a glassier, more electric sound that cuts through better but doesn't sound anywhere near as full and pretty as Busty's Taylor does straight into the pa. So if he breaks a string and stops playing for a second, the sound changes dramatically, and not for the better.

What about "Job" by Jolene?

Shit dude I was just thinking about the Dolly song and I remembered that the Ray Lamontagne song was damn good too.

More:

"Feel my Heat" - Dirk Diggler's band in Boogie Nights
"Designs on You" - Old 97's
"Mercy Mercy Me" - Marvin Gaye (fairly simple to play on acoustic)
"Green Eyes" - Coldplay
"Watching the Wheels" - John Lennon

We've done some Old 97's... lemme see, uh, Question, Buick City Complex, and Bird On A Wire I believe. More recently we worked on Up The Devil's Pay, played it once, and then haven't touched it. That's a problem we have - we were just discussing it. Like Forever In Bluejeans. We worked on it off and on for a week or two between others, then played it once decently, and then forgot it existed. I wonder if I kept a running sheet of what we need to play, with maybe 15 or 20 things on it for each week, if that'd help...? Surely. Not a setlist, but more of a cheat sheet. Hell, we had one once, I believe.

We've also done Green Eyes, but I think only once. Damn good song. The band we had play our wedding reception played that one for us to dance to, and did a damn fine job of it.

John Hiatt is good! How's 'bout "Have a Little Faith In Me"?

David Bowie "Starman" or "Space Oddity"
The Clash "Lost in the Supermarket"
Depeche Mode "Policy of Truth"
Terence Trent D'arby "Sign Your Name"
Bush "Glycerine"
Nick Lowe "Cruel To Be Kind"
Elvis Costello "Everyday I Write the Book"
Joe Jackson "Is She Really Going Out With Him"
Rod Stewart "You're In My Heart"

...so many songs s little time
