My parents were doing some housecleaning and sent me a bunch of sports memorabililia from my childhood

Spurs Profiles From the 1982 Complete Handbook of Pro Basketball:

Quote:
Mark Olberding 25 6'9 230 Forward
"The Battering Ram" comes out of the chute bucking and rearing ready to "lay bone" on anything that moves

George Johnson 32 6'11 220 Center
"Don't bring that stuff around here"...loves to swat back shots, and has earned steady employment doing just same...led league in that category last year despite only averaging 23 minutes per game

Dave Corzine 25 6'11 260 Center
Paul Bunyan's Blue Ox Babe...Overnight the guy has turned into a grizzly bear..."He looks like he worked on the nautilus all summer," said Buck's John Killilea, "Either that or he carried the machines in every day"...split time at center with George Johnson, with Corzine's contribution being offense and hand-to-hand combat...Grew a bushy beard in the offseason before coming to the Spurs from Washington and it increased his ferocity factor by several hundred points

Thought you'd get a kick out of that

np: Flaming Sideburns

i think the phrase "lay bone" is going to be repeated around here a lot in the next few days.

Jack Sikma's is one of my favorites:

Quote:
Looks like such a nice young fellow...What on earth is he doing out there sweating, shoving, elbowing with those ruffians, when he could be back at the country club escorting a debutante?...A genuine rough customer who, despite his fraternity boy blond haircut, gives the opposition all the sinew it can stand

Nice. Sikma is one of my all time favorite hoopsters (being the Sonic fan that I am).

Ah, yes...Olberding and Corzine, a.k.a. "The Bruise Brothers."

Good times...
