A very nice person from this board YSI'd me a .m4a file and I wish to convert it to a format I can play (.wav, mp3) and eventually burn to disk. A friend told me I'll need a 'CODEC' to play this? Is this fact, and what the rock is a 'CODEC'? Please procrastinate & advise.

Thanks in advance,

moxie

itunes plays m4a.

or you could download dbpoweramp and convert to mp3, since every other audio format sucks.

itunes can convert it. i think dbpoweramp will do it too. codec is short form for coder/decoder.

Is the download free? I'm a liberty-taker.

some programs can play them if you download a codec which is basically like a add-in or upgrade. An other option is to convert them to more universal format such as mp3's using free dl'able software.

Use the search function in this forum and you'll find a thread about it. I had this same problem less than a week ago and was able to find some software timmyjoe and others were taking about and it worked like a charm.

edit: it was dbpoweramp as someone posted above

For the record, a CODEC is an enCOder/DECoder.
