what's your new-album-to-my-ears daily percentage? Meaning, out of X number of days, how many albums do you listen to that you haven't heard before?

last year i went thru 264 and am on a 75% clip now to hear 275 this year -- and i'm even trying to cut down!

how many albums pass thru your ears?

Since I have my Launchcast station going for several hours a day, I hear tracks off new albums every day. Otherwise, not much, since I'm brokeass and needy.

actually, this reminds me of an article i read on tinymixtapes or cokemachineglow recently about how disposable current listening habits are now. it's more about hearing about what the next big thing is and wanting a quick listen (possibly before it's street date), forming a quick opinion, then moving on to the next album instead of buying a handful of albums and ruminating on them for a while.

i fall into the former category, although i try to listen to all new albums i happen upon at least twice, and new releases more than that. but it's tough to sit on any album any more with 22k+ songs on my home hard-drive. and there's always something else that piques my interest.

Usually 100-150 albums. I am seriously going to cut down on the number of albums I buy this year though. For one thing, I much more critical about my music purchases and second, I don't have the space to contain my collection if it keeps growing as it has for the past 5 years.

i have all my albums in a database with "acquisition date" part of the data i enter. last year, 264 set the record & i was near the breaking point of actually being able to give a good listen to 'em all.

I'm more of a latter category kind of guy. I'd say I hear an average of a new album every week so maybe a 14% average.

i have no fucking clue on the stats, but i listen to a shitload of new music every day, and always play the entire album through. when i get home at night, i put the headphones on and get to really explore each release, deciding whether or not it's worth keeping, or if my recycle bin will eat it.

I'll probably do this when the kids are older and when I'm out of radio. Don't have the patience to download all kinds of stuff and sit through it after working the whole day around music and production and computers, plus my wife and I have had enough disagreements over downloading that she's pretty much won for now.

I've heard 55 new albums this year.

Own them all, I don't download.

I fell into the former category for the first couple of years of 2000- but now I have pretty much discontinued buying new releases and have shifted to really delving into the history of rock (mainly because of all the name-dropping/comparisons of new release reviews).

What Ive found is that, for me, few albums I acquire at their release have staying power with me- which means, I probably buy the wrong ones for the wrong reasons...

Not to mention, there are just too many releases these days.. I figure I will let time do the hard work and sort out the wheat from the chaff for me

Shit. I'm not that concerned with it. As far as new releases, just a handful each month.

Older albums I haven't heard before, probably two handfuls.

I'm okay with the fact that there is so much more out there than I can ever consume. Couple that with the fact that I appreciate being able to take the time for the sounds I already truly enjoy.

I've got no idea of the numbers, but it'd be pretty low. I hear maybe 50 new albums each year, and then have a hard time scraping together enough good ones for a top 20 for the Shmoo poll.

When I find an album I like I tend to play it for a few weeks straight.

My thoughts also...I didn't do the shmoo poll last year because I would have been doing a top 20 out of 25 or so purchases which seems kind of silly.

If you're talking not newly released and recorded but simply new to me, its probably around 100% to 150%.

Too. Anything over 50% is insane, me thinks (and that's where I am -- well over).
