O.k., I don't like the stones. They have a couple good songs, maybe 1 or 2 per album in their heyday.

But I like The Redwalls brand of british invasion worship, which includes a tiny bit of stones worship.

So have you gone and listened yet?[/b]

Well at least you threw em a bone with 1-2 songs.

I listened to the first song and thought it was good. Wouldn't have been out of place on The White Album. For real, did they use late 60's equipment or what?

I couldn't skip to the next songs though. I may go back to it tonight and let it play before I go out.

Thumbs up.

Listening now.

They are amazing.

What's more amazing, that Phil didn't tell you, is that they're fresh out of High School; ages 18-19.

I hate them for that.

I'm glad people are checking it out. I've been touting these guys for the better part of the year. Nice kids, very tight live, just finished their debut for Capitol.

I hope that Capitol didn't screw up their sound.

And alot of the gear was vintage, but not as much as you would expect.

Enjoy!

Yeah I saw that they have the link on their site to purchase it from the Aware store. BUT it says released 2003? Is it the same as the one that was finished like last week that we are streaming?

Yeah, you're listening to Universal Blues which was end of 03. The new capitol release, well let's just hope they didn't screw with the sound too much.

Don't know when it'll be out, but they just got back into town a couple of weeks ago.

I'll keep you posted as to gigs, or sign up on their mailing list.

I thought it was a 2004 release, I guess it won't be making the list then.

So did anyone see them with Keane and The Zutons?

I hope you did.

They're playing that show in chicago thursday. Sold Out.

Otherwise I was going to try and swing it.

I think I adore them. They sound sooo damn good. Well that is, from what of theirs I've heard online. Gotta get the album soon.

this is insane. I honestly cannot tell the singer's voice apart from an early 70s Lennon, and the instrumentation is spot on late 60's Beatles with some Byrds thrown in there. The one song sounds just like something off Highway 61. I'd love this whole album if there wasn't some sneaking suspicion that i'd already heard the entire thing. I know a lot of folks that'll freak out about this, though. I'm curious to see where they go from here.

i think it was someone from the stones that said the problem with bands today is that they try to get their own sound too quick and never learn to write a song. Both the Stones and the Beatles (and to a lesser degree Dylan) started out as cover bands with scatters of their own songs.

so for a bunch of 18-19 year olds to be doing a sound that is incredibly familiar might not be such a bad thing. The trick is for them to stick around a while.

Three lead singers...

try and tell them apart from each other on the album. O.k., yeah, two are brothers, but still.

Get Universal Blues, for real.

Jewelz, Dylan wa definitely a covers guy back in the day, just not as much from the Blue/R&B side of things.

EPA -- I finally got a track off these dude's from that SXSW site that Tania put up, and it is pretty fucking qual. You played on the album coming out? Does it have a release date? I would definitely purchse this.

I didn't play on it. They all did, and to my knowledge, no studio musicians, but from what i've heard, they modernized the drum sounds. Still, good songwriting, great vocals, etc...

Did tania point you to the sxsw player? Looks like it's stuff off the indie release and not the Capitol release that's playing there.

Date is supposed to be late spring/early summer. That's all I've heard.
