Since I posted their singles list and people seem to dig it. I deicide to post their albums list, that was done just last month. I think many here will like this list better because it is more in line with the taste of this board. I will come back later and post the albums that were voted 101-200. Than even later I will post something that happen because of this list and has everything to do with Pitchfork.

They did their list kind of similar to use but posted about ten albums per day vs. one per day. I posted the link but you might not want to click on it right away because it has over 750 replies. It’s an absolutely great read and I’m going to be buying many album on this list because of that but it’s a lot of information so have some time if you do.

They asked and voted on what list to do next, either the 80s or the first five years of this decade as the 90s were done late last year. I was hoping to see 2000-2004 but because of the age of that board the 80s won out. They are taking a few months off but will be doing it than; I can’t wait to do my list.

I can't argue against any of those inclusions, those there's several hundred others that could slide in there in place of these.

The biggest problem with that list, IMO, is no Who’s Next. Also why is there no Dark Side Of the Moon? These albums are classics and should be on any list having to do with the 70s. Yes I could grip about a few other things but a lot of stuff I simply do not know but will research and try to hear just about ever single one of these albums.

Hard to argue with, but lots of indie name check stuff, IMO.

Of course, I think I am the only one on this board who doesn't like Eno...so there's that.

I've heard them all Bee. They're all worth owning. Except #74, maybe. No, even that, I guess.

And No. 1 In Heaven is NOT better than Halfnelson, Sparks, A Woofer in Tweeter's Clothing, Kimono My House, Propoganda or Indiscreet

Do you not like Roxy Music or just solo Eno. I'm not big on any Eno albums including here comes the warm jets, but I love Roxy Music.

Not the only one.

As for that list, it's a bit of a shock for me to see a "best of" list for the decade I came of age in, musically, and see groups I not only have never heard, but never heard OF. Sucks to find out I was even unhip 30 years ago........

I heart Donna Summer and might be one of the first albums that I have ever bought. I don’t care for Disco for the most part but even I might have voted for this album because of it being one of my first decisions regarding music. In fact because I have seen this I would love to hear this greatest hits album but my record player is in storage. You are not the only one who had a problem with that Sparks album.

I happen to know and own a lot of this list but have not heard other things like Can. I have always wanted to know what they were like but just haven’t got around to listening to it as of yet. Now I really want to hear their stuff.

np: Bright Eyes - Digital Ash In A Digital Urn

Since this thread has no interest and only really brought out the haters (Phil not included) I won’t post what I was going to post when I first started this thread.

I do want to thank that person on that personal PM as I’m looking forward to hearing Can for the first time in my life.

I Love my friends on Obner!

np: Boo Radleys – Kingsize (just lie here, don't go to town)

I can hinestly say I have never knowingly heard a Roxy Music song.

I tried to listen to some Eno stuff, but I just don't hear it.

I like this list alot. This is probably my favorite era in music. There's just something about the mixture of singer songwriter, punk, post punk, experimental, glam, jazz, funk, rock, folk, etc. It's like the music industry just hit a groove where everyone was playing off of everyone else, the music industry hadn't become pinned down and popular artists were creative and experimental. Having said that, T Rex is sorely missed as Marc Bolan and Electric Warrior are completely iconic in that regard.

I've never understood why people elevate this album so....its a slightly above average reggae album to my ears and I love reggae.

There's a lot of stuff on this list that I don't really like much and a lot of stuff that I love from the 70's that is overlooked.

The real puzzling selections to me though are 2 Kraftwerk albums in the top 20.

np: Stooges S/T

Using a strict definition of 'own', I have 30 of these and really dig at least 28 of those (and acknowledge the probable goodness of the other two - Pink Moon and Fun House, of all the juxtapositions!). Not bad for a decade I wasn't even alive for the bulk of.

I would not have chosen Paris 1919 as my John Cale nod, but it's the popular favourite for sure.

And, the rankings certainly seem to have taken a lean towards all the stuff we hear today, which is fine, I guess, but this is not the list these folks would have made five years ago, I bet. Gang of Four better than Bowie and Lennon? Wire better than Talking Heads and Marvin Gaye?

And I know he's not too hip but that Springsteen album rocks the damn house. I'd take it over getting the Led out any day.

<--- known zep hater.

Now you're just talking nonsense. Even restricting attention to the 70s--Bowie had like three different creative peaks there! Lennon was all over the map, most of it good and most of it new! Entertainment's a great album, but the depth just isn't there (IMHO blah blah blah).

Well, if you buy the premise of an all-inclusive list it's flora and fauna all over the place. That's the spirit of the thing :)

I think you're a tad bit overreacting. They have Ziggy just one spot behind Gang of Four Entertainment. I'd put Ziggy one or two spots ahead of Entertainment but its damn close. And both of those would be in my top ten, all time not just of the 70's.

I think the main thing going on elevating Entertainment above Bowie is that Entertainment is an obvious clearcut choice for Gang of Four fans while the Bowie vote gets divided across many albums. I'd put both above Lennon by the way.

To your earlier point I'd put TH above Wire but its not crazy to do the reverse. Marvin Gaye is a tough one for me. The more soul I listen to, the less floored I am by Marvin Gaye. He's great and I like "What's Going On" more than most of what's on the list, but there's lots of soul artists I like as much or more than him so I'm not going to bitch that he's not higher.

<----- not a zep fan either

Moaning about lists is one of my few remaining joys in a troubling world. It's a pretty good list, but I must find some grumbles to keep me going :)
