PAUL McCARTNEY!!!!!!

dude HAS to have another awesome album in him, right?
he needs to have a producer lock him in a room and force him to make a great album. No good album . . . no one leg sex.

matthew sweet. he has 2 or 3 awesome songs on most of his albums - expand that to 5 or so and then we have something.

Pearl Jam - I respect 'em and everything, but goddammit I wish they'd put out an album I could listen to.

Hanoi Rocks - everything about them screamed "nuthin' but a partay" except for their recorded work. Mostly anemic.

Deadly Snakes - all the right influences are there, the intent is there, but there's still the issue of, like, talent (I'm not counting 'em out quite yet, though).

Enon - should be a whole lot more fun than they are.

Giant Sand - Howe Gelb is one of my fave artists, and Giant Sand are responsible for a lot of great moments, but I wish he'd just take a little time to craft a few more actual songs rather than meandering improvs.

Jesus and Mary Chain - mang, those first 3 albums made JAMC seem set to take over the planet, but they never managed to put it all together.

A.C. Newman - some really good songs, some completely forgettable.
Badly Drawn Boy - he's obviously got it in him... somewhere. Actually, at this point he needs to get a lot better.
Beulah, proabably.
Shearwater
Pernice Brothers
Natural History

I agree with Cornelius, The Beta Band, Spoon, and The Shins. Those are all artists that I kinda like, but have never managed to cross over into being something I really care about. They've come really close, though.

These are artists I really like (or used to) that I just don't feel have lived up to their potential:

Clinic
Mr. Lif
Gang Gang Dance
Mike Ladd
Six Organs of Admittance
Prefuse 73
The Books

Oh and if the female Saturday Looks Good to Me singer's voice was really good, they'd be an awesome band. Same with the guy I guess.

I don't really know whether I want every band to be a little bit better or no band band to. It's come to my attention that bands like the Smashing Pumpkins have an inconsistency that makes them somehow endearing, and Adore is secretly awesome. The first half was just ahead-of-the-time after all, and the second half is just good.

So I'll just go full-tilt and say The Beatles. All of their records are great but often piss me off due to a mindless showtune or two (or 3, 4, 5) by Paul McCartney, the purely commerce side of the band.

Nas - I only own Illmatic. I want to get his other albums but I just feel like they're never going to live up to his debut.

Pearl Jam - I have almost all their albums but really have no desire to listen to them anymore. I don't even think it's that I'm bored of them because they're so played out from radio/mtv exposure but their last couple of albums were just 'eh'. I also have great respect for them.

Hanoi Rocks - Their first few albums aren't all that great but Back To Mystery City and Two Steps From The Move are seriously great when compared with other bands they were lumped in with at the time (Motley Crue, Poison, etc.)

Totally agree. But I've always thought Hanoi Rocks were so close to being even better than that.

Do you have their new/latest album? I want to hear it but I feel like it's going to be a huge letdown.

Just found their home page, with sample clips of every song off Another Hostile Takeover. Can't tell a whole bunch from a 30 second clip, but this sounds pretty close to "huge letdown".

I didn't even know about that album. I was wondering about the 12 Shots On The Rocks one.

so, uh you are dissing Paul's songwriting/influence in the Beatles. because if you are, you openlyknow nothing about the Beatles. I aint hatin brother, I'm just sayin. Macca is the fucking Beatles to a certain point (i know, i know, flame me fuckers, flame me)

none of his ALBUMS live up to the hype, but you could make a double CD of post illmatic Nas songs and he would still be considered one of the best of all time.

dude just lost his ability to filter.

try picking up The Lost Tapes, or at the very least download "doo rags," "purple" and "black zombies"
