Turner was at some celebration for the 25 year anniversary of CNN -- he had some rather interesting things to say and this one I thought quite possibly the best:

The media pioneer called CNN his greatest professional achievement.

And at one point he claimed partial credit for ending the Cold War.

Amanpour asked his if he honestly thought he had a hand in it.

"I'm absolutely certain I did," he said.

That's right, looks like Ted Turner and The Pope ended the Cold War.
Wow. . .

But dude is the shit; To wit:

-I pass a crap load of "Turner" owned billboards everyday
-TNT, TBS Turner South, etc, not to mention CNN&Headline News
-the largest private land owner in the USA
-my freaking gf is a barkeep/manager at "Ted's"

Turner went on this spiel about CNN's "pervert of the day" template that pisses him off and isn't why he started the damn network. When's he's reminded about the O.J. trial he's "Oh, but that was good TV."

I know the television had an influence on the downfall of Ceaucescu in Romania but I don't think it was the likes of CNN.

What happened was Ceaucescu took all the western programmes off Romania channels and started to broadcast, well wall to wall him! Not a big hit with the viewers.

Apparently 'The Onegin Line' a British old timey naval series had been the number one TV programme in Romania so everyone retuned their televisions so they could receive Hungarian television and see 'The Onegin Line'again.

Of course when they tuned into foreign television channels they started to hear about the Timisoara massacre and got pretty pissed off. A short time later the Communist regime was out on it's arse and Ceaucescu was getting some bullet holes in him.

Moral of the story - Don't Fuck With The Schedules.

When you think about the fact that you can make as big an argument that cheap jeans and rock n roll had as much to do with it as MAD, then yeah, I can see Ted's point. Say what you will about him, but he stomps on the terra. And, NICE MUSTACHE!
