According to my ex husband(who is an IT dude for a large corporation) the Windows system has bit the dust.

It's been slow as hell lately and we keep having to shut it down to get it out of certain programs.

This morning when I did this instead of coming back up as normal I ended up with a blue screen telling me it cannot connect to the hive and then added that all physical memory has been dumped.

Ohhh boy, I cannot tell you how happy I am at the moment(posting from the work computer, we're closed and so I came down here to find something and use theirs).

The damn computer is not even three years old. that's what pisses me off the most.

I wouldn't worry. We think this has more to do with the fact that our condo bldg has an internet provider and it's the only one we're allowed to use.

I've had nonstop probs since being hooked up to it. It's been a year now. And this was just the cherry on top of the sundae.

Ok, going home now with discs I needed. Hopefully can get it fixed tonight by aforementioned ex.

If not, perhaps he can cure anything else that may ail you. ;)

You know what that sounds a helluvalot like? A harddrive that was going bad, and finally went bad. That, or lots of porn.

I am still using my Dell P3 from 5 years ago as my desktop, and its still kicking. I need to completely reinstall Windows XP this week, but I might be able to get a few more months out of it. Not bad.

I have a Dell P4 that turned 3 in February, and it's doing great.

I want to buy a new machine to split all my work related stuff off and use this one as a big jukebox of the worst songs ever, but I'm not quite there yet.

i have a dell p4 that turned 2 in february. his name is "milieu" and he's just fine. [knock knock knock]

i use him for work stuff, play stuff and a big-arse jukebox of the worst music. music's on its own 250 gig drive, all else is on the other 200 gig drive.

Every computer that I've seen crap out over the years has been due to adware, a virus, or randomly deleting programs without using "Add or Remove Programs" in Control Panel.

The #1 cause of computer problems these days seems to be a lack of knowledge in maintaining a computer, especially on the software side. At the bare minimum, everyone should have AVG, Adaware, and they should enable "Automatic Updates" in the Control Panel. If you never used Windows Update, you'd be surprised how many patches are available.

Also, I think everyone should format their computer at least once every year, even if they have Windows XP with all the latest patches - especially if multiple people use the computer.

i recommend that everyone:
a: buys a decent size external hard drive so you can back up your stuff
b: (if on windows) reinstall windows every 6 months-1 year.

reinstalling any operating system can be a pain in the ass, but with windows it is most definately worth all the pain and aggravation.
