no complaints here! that's a classic record.

Yes.
Yes it is.
Now, rise up, gather round and burn this place down to the ground...

Oh!
And I'm surprised I haven't yet seen mention of:
Spinal Tap - Smell the Glove

But that was their fallow period! If you exclude Piece of Mind at any rate.

Powerslave is their worst 'classic' period album and while Somewhere In Time had some highlights it was essentially Maiden by numbers.

It was only with Seventh Son that they got back on track. Seventh Son actually might be their best album but it was a last hurrah to a certain extent because I felt they just went through the motions after that.

Okay, my final answer:

Black Sabbath, Technical Ecstasy -- my personal favourite, though most people believe Paranoid or Master of Reality
Opeth, Blackwater Park
Shape of Despair, Angels of Distress (although they're all good)
Tool, Lateralus
Slayer, Reign in Blood or Seasons...

Honorable mention (in the classic rock vein):

Judas Priest, Sad Wings of Destiny (although everything after that up through Hell Bent for Leather was perfect)
Scorps, Lovedrive

You're shittin' me. I have the cd and have seen other copies of it around here before. If I ever find one again I'll buy it on the spot. I had no idea it was so rare. I think their earlier LP's (before they were on Def American) are even harder to find now.

i bought run to the light on either amazon or ebay for less that $10, i think.

Some have been mentioned, but:

Sabbath- Debut, Paranoid & Volume 4

Zeppelin- Debut through Physical Graffiti

G&R- Appetite

Lots of fun hair band stuff, but can't say I have a lot of complete records from Maiden, Crue etc.

New stuff- Mastodon and Converge are my favorites.

Gotta agree. Nothing they did after this was even remotely interesting.

I rank them like this:

Piece Of Mind
The Number Of The Beast
Killers
Seventh Son
Powerslave (Hey, its got 2 Minutes To Midnight on it so its not all bad)
Somewhere In Time
Live After Death

The rest, eh...

1. Opeth -- My Arms Your Hearse

3. Voi Vod -- Dimension Hatross
4. Kreator -- Terrible Certainty
5. Sacred Reich -- Ignorance

I was one of those THRASH metal kids/fans in the late 1980's.
