So here I am at home, indulging in my latest obsession, Handsome Dick Manitoba's gig on Sirius' "Underground Garage", and he plays The Romantics' "Devil In Me", from an album they apparently released in late 2003 and dammit if this thing didn't knock me on my ass. Pure garage punk, not the sugar-coated "What I Like About You", this thing was raw and gutteral.

I don't remember seeing this record getting any hype whatsoever 'round here or on CMJ, but damn if this one track doesn't deserve it. It's strong enough that I'm ordering the album in another window.

Good christ, now HDM's playing The Saints "Swing For The Crime", just after the Swinging Neckbreakers.

I swear, this is the only radio product other than a few of the other DJ's back at RSU where I own more than 30% of what they play.

I've been looking in vain for that new Romantics album in the stores. It's called 61/49 and they've got Clem Burke hittin' the skins on it. Could be a good'un.

Here's a Delusions Of Adequacy review.

And "Swing For The Crime" sounds better now to me than it did in the late '70s (and it sounded awesome back then).

Have you been able to score the new one yet?

Negatory. I'll be surprised if it shows up in the stores here. I'm already figuring on waiting until it ends up at Half.com.

I bought that Romantics album around the time it came out, but I'm a long-time fan.

It's good, but not great. Matter of fact, it's been quite awhile since I popped it in...I should listen to it again.

I'm just glad they were able to get thru all their legal problems so they could be a working band again.

I'd love to hear that Handsome Dick show, BTW. I bet it kicks ass.
