Yes, keep Mariah Carey from the #1 spot.

No. You could save the cash by just playing their last album while singing different words to it.

But you'd miss the Rattle & Hum-era guitar parts, man.

It'll be in used bins before you know it.

Don't bother buying it: the singles will be on every radio station for the rest of your life. You will get sick of the album within a few weeks and never listen to it again because you can't escape it. EMI's invested so much in this album being their big seller of the year that they're going to do everything they can to ensure that happens. I guarantee you: you will not be able to escape Coldplay, and in short time you will regret having forked over cash that supports EMI's ridiculous move.

Or you could just not listen to the radio or watch MTV much and just take the album for what it is -- a heartfelt set of well-crafted heart-on-sleeve anthems with nods to Travis/U2/Radiohead.

Yeah, I am surprised at the amount of backlash for this disc. It isn't new or brilliant or earth-shattering, but it is a very nice collection of songs, melody and great fun to listen to, I think. The album is as cohesive as anything in the genre since The Joshua Tree, I believe.

I think the people that dont like the album really just dont like coldplay, or dont like this type of music. If you like radio-friendly pop and have enjoyed coldplay prior to this, I think it will be a pleasant surprise.

I kinda enjoy it, after 6 or 7 listens, but so far nothing has stuck with me. Find it somewhere for free. If I weren't about to leave town for 5 days, I could be that somewhere.

correct response.

it's hilarious to see good bands become popular and then see the backlash. "oh, they used to be good when they weren't all over the place".

fucking excellent record. you should buy it.

Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head had some of the worst cover packaging ever, so I'm not sure why you would buy Coldpllay. To keep Chris Martin comforted in his mansion?

If you need to keep Mariah from number 1, get White Stripes.

And Dalen, you must have the most vanilla taste out there to prefer Coldplay over Antony & the Johnsons.

Why would you be surprised? The hype over this album is of Star-Wars proportions. As big a release as this is (and it's HUGE in terms of sales) there's still only a certain amount of people that will like and want this, which in relation to the population in general is relatively small, and those of us who've already tired of having "Speed of Sound" shoved down our throats at every turn are going to get spiteful about it. I don't care if Coldplay sells well, I don't care if anyone listens. I'm just tired of it being every-damn-where all the time. I don't even listen to the radio and I've heard that song several times a day - whether it be flipping through the channels or going to get pizza, the song is EVERYWHERE. I didn't mind Coldplay when they popped up with the regularity that any other successful artist does . . . I could happily ignore their boring music pretty easily because it wasn't everywhere all the time. It's when it's inescapable that I'm going to start bitching. Coldplay is now inescapable - so here I am, bitching.

Yeah, cause The White Hypes could never be accused of being boring or putting out a mediocre, though 'different' record.

Oh, wait...they're cool, though.

Don't bother. There's plenty of more interesting albums to spend your money on.

Bought it, love it....

Accept it. Coldplay will not be going away anytime soon.

You guys are a bunch of cry babies because they get some props. Sheesh, just chose not to listen if you don't want to.

Coldplay backlash has gone mainstream, which means that Coldplay backlash backlash is en vogue.

If I only like The Scientist and Yellow off their past albums, is there a song on this I can steal I'll actually listen to?
