We've all met various rock stars before -- at least most of us. So, which experiences were your favorites?

Me:
Blackie Onasis (URGE Overkill drummer) wandered into one of my band's rehearsals and listened in for a couple of songs. He seemed to enjoy it and, told us so as he wandered back out. Very nice guy.

Richard Lloyd (Television/Matthew Sweet guitar player) relaying the story to me about how he got decked by Jimi Hendrix when he was a teenager.

Having a beer with Jim Ellison (Material Issue) at a bar that we both used to frequent (Danny's - the same place I met my wife). He was extremely gracious and warm. Also a helluva talent that we lost way too early.

What are your favorites?

Oops. Sorry I wasn't more clear.

I was referring to PERSONAL interactions that you've had with famous or semi-famous rock people. Changed the topic title to better reflect that.

Sorry.

I know that some of you have pretty good stories, so let's hear 'em!

Hmmm.

Favorites.

Sebastian Bach - First time I met him, it was super cool. Then he assaulted me at a party bout a year later. Not too cool, but memorable.

Royston Langdon - Just met hm like a month ago. Always a big Spacehog fan,. and really thought they had that special something to be HUGE!. But gracious guy, and of course he is the one who introuces me to Liv Tyler, so he is one of my favorites!

Jani Lane - Warrant. Sue me! Was out in LA with my edotir and met with him for dinner....I was never a big Warrant fan, but he was a super nice guy.

Marilyn Manson - met at irving PLaza. behind the 'schtick'; a nice guy. humble even.

hmm, more later maybe, i f i can think...thats the first four off the top of my head.

Eating lunch with Sooyoung Park in Chicago's Korean town and talking about the Seam album "The Problem with Me"

Hanging out with Urge Overkill at their Geffen release party for Saturation in 1993.

Having Steve Malkmus be a complete dick while I was interviewing him in early 1994, especially when I prodded him about Gary Young. At least Nostanovich was nice.

Throwing the members of Bugskull completely off when we dropped the name of their first band Jarvek 7.

Watching my fiance get pulled up onstage to sing lead vocals on the song "Motor Away" at a Guided by Voices show (Bob slipped her the tongue at another show she was standing against the stage at)

Emailing back and forth with Stan Penridge (the guy who wrote songs with Peter Criss of KISS) shortly before he passed away in 2000. He told me I had an amazing sense of humor because of some parodies I wrote on some KISS bulletin board.

The various Wrens encounters I've had over the past 18 months.

fuck...I forgot my favorite one

Interviewing David Baker and Grasshopper of Mercury Rev on WNUR in 1993 and having them give completely nonsensical answers to fairly straightforward questions. Columbia made them go on an "interview" tour and I guess this was their way of protesting. Afterwards, Baker said in all sincerity to me "you knew more about our band than anyone on this tour.......Jager???" and pulled out a bottle of Jagermeister from his coat.

Needless to say I was a little drunk when I went back on the air.

Hanging out with Luka Bloom, talking politics, after one of his shows in Boston. Very laid back and kind man. I was drunk, unfortunately, and ended up gushing to him, but he was very nice about it and even found it endearing, I think.

Meeting and hanging out with Joe Doyle from the Frames in Atlanta. Young guy, but so nice. He seemed very grounded and realistic about the band's potential. He kept asking me where my husband was, ha ha!

Standing next to John Taylor (Duran Duran) a couple of years ago while he signed a cd. We didn't exchange words so much, but I just got to bask in the glow... he's very tall and smells wonderful!

I don't talk to musicians because I'm just to indie but the following incidents have all happened.

Motherwell Civic Hall. Me. Morrissey. Big hug.

A trough-like urinal. On one side Aidan from Arab Strap. On the other Connor from Bright Eyes. They have a conversation across me will we all take a piss. When I was puting mine away I caught a glimpse of Aidan's and I have to say it looked a little 'tattered'.

There's more but I'm so tired....meh....

Tattered? Erm. I'm not sure if I want that clarified or not

When I was working the door at a Moby gig Depeche Mode tried to wander in without showing me their tickets. Of course, I didn't recognise them. As they didn't stop, I had to haul the littlest one back by the elbow to demand his ticket. His mates were highly amused. I made some crack about being cute and having accents not eliminating the requirement for tickets (which they had in the bottom of a tote somewhere), we all laughed, and off they went. Whereupon my younger coworkers came over to squeal and ask me what I had said to them (and pointed out who 'them' was) etc etc. pretty funny.

I tried to trade shirts with the chick who played bass in The Toadies, since we wore the same size. She wouldn't bite, actually sorta shy, so I tried to convince the drummer to go to a dirty ass titty bar in Monroe, Louisiana. He seemed interested, but the band kept backing him out. I settled for all four autographing my school I.D. Even better, it's the I.D. where I convinced the girl taking pictures that I really did wear and eyepatch. Arrrrr.

Umm...

Adam Gaynor from matchbox twenty gave me an apple once (later dubbed Adam's apple, sliced and dried).

The lead singer of Rusted Root told me he liked my shirt.

last year, i had a dream that i was driving with my friend, tyler, to a ted leo gig and we heard on the radio that ted leo died in an accident en route to philadelphia. of course, i was planning to see ted leo the next week and freaked out. so i called tyler and told him to just meet me at the club because we couldn't drive to the show together anymore. (a couple dreams had actually come true before this.) so i got there, ted leo was alive, he played well, and then i saw him at the bar after the show. and tyler told me to tell him about the dream. so i did. and he was like, "what?! don't tell me that!" and i said, "but you didn't die! it's okay!" he still wasn't amused.

i went to fez to see rhett miller a few years ago and was in line when someone tapped me on the shoulder. i turned around and rhett miller was standing next to me. he said, "hi." and i said, "hi." and then he asked me to move aside so he could get in, but i didn't hear his mumbles, so i stood there for a second like, "yeah, what do you want?" the friend i was with at the time has a huge crush on rhett miller and was totally embarrassed. she pulled me aside and he went in.

my favorite band is rocket from the crypt. i stopped in spaceboy records across the street from the TLA in philly before seeing them and ran into their drummer, mario rubalcaba. i have this thing where i can't say hi to those guys because it just wouldn't be the same afterward. anyway, i wanted to say something, but couldn't acknowledge him as ruby mars. so i asked if he was mario and then talked about clikatat ikatowi and the black heart procession. then he said, "yeah, i'm in rocket from the crypt now. we're playing across the street tonight." i was like, "yeah. i know. i'll be there."

In the past couple of years, I’ve met quite a few bands/artists, but the following would probably be the most memorable:

Ian McCulloch and Will Sargent – Having been a huge Echo & the Bunnymen fan, I was ecstatic when an English email buddy travelled over to see the band perform and pre-arranged for us to meet the band backstage. I had always heard that Ian was somewhat of a dick in person, so I was somewhat apprehensive about approaching him. He and Will were nice as can be, taking the time to chat with us. Totally made my night.

Dennis Wilson – Met him at an autograph signing party when he released his first solo album. I don’t even remember how old I was, though I do remember that there was hardly anyone at the store. My best friend and I kept saying to each other, “This is fuckin’ Dennis Wilson, why isn’t anyone here?!” Got my photo taken with him…wonder what happened to it?

Bay City Rollers – I was 16 and absolutely apeshit over these guys. My mom drove me to their autograph signing party. Tons of girls outside, but I was one of the first 20 to go in. Got my photo taken with two of the guys, walked out and broke down in tears. I was such a dork.

Donny Osmond – I was 14, mom took my sister and me to Vegas to see the Osmonds perform. Dunno how Mom did it, but after the show, she talked our way into the backstage area where we got to meet the entire family. I got a kiss from Donny. Needless to say, I was in seventh heaven. Dude, I was 14. It was puppy love.

Of the more recent artists, I have to mention:

Franz Ferdinand – Met them earlier this year on their first tour of the US. Super nice guys, offering me bananas and shots out of their Jaegermeister bottle. My friends tell me that was a memorable night only because I yelled out to the guitarist, “Nick, you have a nice ass!” I guess my voice carries…everyone heard. As if I was embarrassed, I think not.

interviewing john vanderslice and him being a nice guy about it, even though the questions were really lame and the interview never got written up.

hanging out with kph & dsbruce backstage with super furry animals. they had a ton of weed.

i think that's about it.

I helped either Salt or Pepa get into her hotel room after she locked herself out.

Oh then there was the time that Kim Deal washed my car....well that should've happened.

I sold Stipe cigarettes once. I vaguely remember Bloor pointing out Dave Schools of Widespread to me on several occassions back in the heyday of Mean Mikes.

I saw Erick Sermon in the ATL airport one time. He was getting BK, I said "What up, E? Keep the Crossover," he laughed and gave me a pound and I bounced.

i gave my crappy hand made tape to Mark Ibold, he said, "cool cover, like the illustration" and i also gave one to Mac from Superchunk. I patted him on the shoulder and it was really bony.

not rock star, but star . . . i got my knee iced in the same room as Kobe Bryant while he got his knee iced.
