Ladies and gentlemen, I am finally home from my week-long vacation ("vacation from what?" - shutup). I have been back down south, to see the good Senator preside over a wedding as a bonafide Reverend... seriously. It wound up being quite the Obner Hookup, with Albion, Yail, Busty, myself, the Senator, and Rick "Dapper" Derris all in attendance.

Clockwise from left are Busty (note intentional showing of bloody right eye), Dapper Derris, Reverend Senator, and my gay, surprised evil twin.

Image

Details:

The senator managed to be quite professional. He treated it like a job, and spoke clearly and flawlessly. He also managed to resist what must've been immense temptation and didn't use the phrase "this is how (anyone) ROLLS" even once during the ceremony or his impromptu toast speech. He did, however, sweat a great deal.
Image
To his credit, it was in the mid 80's and raining like crazy, and he was also decked out in some of his greater fineries.

The rain started a good hour before the ceremony, and did not let up while I was still vertical. (Speaking of, I witnessed a fantastic drunk-guy-clutching-much-much-younger-girl-falling-over scene, and it made my evening) This meant that conditions were very, very muddy, especially in high traffic areas like the "bar." By the end of the evening, the puddle around that area was 4 to 5 inches deep, and pretty much pure mud. The ground by our table:

Image

Yes, I was wearing flipflops.

In order not to ruin their friend's wedding weekend, Yail and the Senator instituted a mutually-beneficial policy of ending every "discussion" by hugging it out... i.e., "let's hug it out." They did indeed hug it out throughout the entire weekend, and many a potential crisis was averted.

I had to be quick with the camera, but one such hug-out was captured:

Image

I was very, very happily surprised when Derris showed up later on into the reception. I knew the chances weren't great, nor was the weather, so I was doubly happy. Note that he was the best dressed person in attendance, dispite not being officially "invited," I believe.

I can honestly say the Senator did a fantastic job. He was clear, concise, and very professional, at least until the reception. Hats off to him.

I knew it was bad, but I didn't know I was sweating through my fucking jacket. Oh my sweaty!! I am severely susceptable to humidity, and once I start sweating, pretty much need dat massive airconditioning to make it stop. That wasn't available.

Still, awesome time kids, and GREAT THREAD KYLE. Entertaining.

Send me more pics of folks aside from just us.

It's not so much that I'm small, as it is that those guys are all enormously tall.

And I'm short.

Oh, and one more tidbit: Busty and I were charged with playing instrumentals as the people walked in, so we had to think of songs to play that sounded appropriate. Busty would hit the chords, I had to do the Muzak version of the vocal line on my guitar. About 4 songs into it, he gets this look on his face and starts playing Fuck Her Gently. The groom (and like 1/3 of those in attendance) recognized the melody, and it got some grins. It was hard to keep a straight face while humming "you don't always have to fuck her hard..." quietly to myself.

Great thread.
Thanks for letting us all be there -- in virtual fashion.

I don't think it was the heat as much as it was the absolute monsoon that was going on for a couple of hours. Getting wet and muddy was completely unavoidable but after a few drinks it really didn't matter.

I'm hoping that it's a statement to my character that everyone I hung out with there were absolutely cool as shit and just really good people and it reminded me of why I hang with them in the first place.

Another nice moment:

Around midnight or so the groom had Bloor have everyone that was still there all come on the dance floor for some drunken revelry. Everyone was to light a sparkler, engage in a massive group hug, and have a drunken singalong to "Wild Horses". Good times.

That was qual. I hope someone has pics. I talked to Tim (the groom) last nite. He just called to say thanks again and tell me what an awesome job he felt I did. Which means a lot, because I know the bride's parents and relatives were a bit wary of a seersucker jacketed/White pants wearing obvious boo-hoo marrying their daughter off.

I am glad you were treated well Ben, because I remember thinking when you showed up that I was too drunk to last much longer. I guess I made it another 2-2.5 hrs. Most of which was spent swilling Crown and taking shots of Tequila. We need more pics in this thread, tho.

(And, Tim told me that the monger who filmed it is putting together some kind of fine video montage)

ask and ye shall receive...

Busty after catching the slip-leg-thingy (word escapes me at the moment):

Loog, before the sweating began in earnest, towering over several mere mortals, with a disturbing grin:

That's it. Dammit. Thank you. My wife didn't do that whole garter thing, thus I am excused.

Oh, and while I'm thinking of it, Albion's wife is probably the NICEST woman I've met in recent memory. He is a fortunate man. Rare indeed is the woman who handles the whole "these are my internet buddies" issue with such aplomb. Chase knows what I'm talkin about.

She is open qual. Michelle said she was actually impressed, rather than the disgusted I expected, by all of us.

I look damn evil in that pic. Post more, I'm a Narcissist.

Redeye reduction would not have worked on this picture.
That is an actual, and seriously, red eye on the Bust man.
Re-read Busty's bar fight thread from a week or two ago for more details.
