Yeah, some of them are rote, but isn't the whole AFI list a bit rote? It is a list of canonized quotes from canonized movies. By the time yahoos like us run things like this, the world will be worse for it.

the only problem i have with doing stuff like this is that it can ruin movies for you. Like when i saw "On the Waterfront" for the first time i spent the whole movie waiting for "the scene" and the movie isn't really ABOUT that scene, it's important . . . but waiting for it ruins the flow of the movie.

and they ruined "Chinatown" - they didnt' need to give away the whole movie, they could have just showed the "forget it jake, it's chinatown" line without giving away the whole plot.

same with "Rosebud" though i think most people know that one already.
