I would listen to this backwards to avoid having to hear one song from Alligator again.

you know you probably won't have to hear ANY songs from Alligator if you don't like it. it's not like they're destined to become background noise on Everybody Loves Raymond or whatever your favorite show is. in fact you'll probably find it pretty easy to ignore them if you stop bringing them up.

You like it.

You wanna marry it and have like 10,000 of its babies.

(BTW, lighten up)

Well, I mean, chase and tommy and estone were circle jerking onto the cover for a while there, but I don't think backlash has reached critical mass. I listened to it from the streaming site and was very unimpressed.

Then, again, chase is right, its not the Stones, so...

The thing is, a few of us like it, but we don't go all Wrens or anything, yet people dislike it lots. I guess there were a couple threads a few months ago, but it was nothing like the Arcade Fire or Wrens or Interpol. Eh, whatever. I've never prided myself on liking music that everyone else likes.

But seriously, whats this Maximo Park like? Aren't they on Warp?

I haven't listened to either The National or Maximo Park yet. I'll try and check them out at work tomorrow.

That Srokes-y description is pretty accurate but I can't get into either of these bands...and the RIYL is right up my alley.

Just download 'Apply Some Pressure' and 'Graffiti' and be done with it, nothing else worth listening to.

Lay off the paint. How anyone who likes an RIYL of the Strokes and doesn't like them is beyond me, aside from inevitable backlash.

This album is good. There are some interesting influences readily apparent, including Queen and Pulp. I see this getting some serious summer play.

I listened to both of these today.

Maximo Park was decent but sounded like a less impressive Futureheads.

The National was better but the singer's voice is really pretty bland.

I also listened to the new Emiliana Torrini today and enjoyed that a lot more than these 2.

I listened to Maximo Park once, and I seem to remember more of Franz Ferdinand vibe to it, rather than the Strokes. Granted, those bands all share a common vibe in general, but Maximo Park seemed to be a bit more dance and disco-oriented, whereas the Strokes are more just straight-up dirty RnR. Not bad on the first listen, but glad I got it via YSI rather than shilling out $13 for it.
