I finally got the chance to hear their new EP (coming out shortly I think), and for those who are interested, it's pretty good. Isaac Brock upped the production quality immensely, and the songs are pretty tight. None of the tracks on it have been previously released (at least that I know of), so it's worth picking up if you have their previous self-released discs. If anything, I'm more pumped about their upcoming album after hearing this; the ep does a good job of wetting the appetite and leaves the impression that they got their shit together and recorded a good record.
Sadly, I don't yet have my own copy so I can't hook anyone up. However, I will post an update after I hear the proper record (I should get a few listens next week, hopefully).

Has anyone seen them live recently? I blew it and couldn't get into their last show in New York (where modest mouse played and suprise two hour set right after them in a tiny, tiny club...)

I have a 4-song EP that I picked up at a show in Montreal last year, when they opened for Modest Mouse, and I like the songs but the production is awful. I am anxious to hear them with an actual producer overseeing things. has Isaac Brock accentuated guitars more in these songs?

I was very impressed by their set, I think their lead-singer has has real stage presence, I hope it translates in the studio.

i need to listen to it some more, but you can hear everything clearly in the mix, including the guitars when appropriate. i don't have the EP your talking about, but from what people have told me the production on their last EP (six songs, i think) was much better than the first one, and this new one is leaps and bounds better the last one (which I adored). i think you'll be pleased.

She's got the day off today and is probably still sleeping in. But, she'll definitely post later, especially since we were just talking of Wolf Parade last night.

Here's a brief description I wrote for a best of list from last year, talking about their last EP, not the EP i'm talking about in this thread:
Quote:
The first time my roommates played this for me, I thought it sounded like a weird, deranged guitar band with an overzealous synth player. On top of it the singer sounded spooky and intense. I thought it sucked, and by the fifth time I heard it I realized just how wrong I was. This takes so many elements of all the things that have been in vogue the last few years (think eighties inspiration and first interpol record cool), and puts them into a package that is both ridiculously compelling, not derivative in any of the ways that so many bands with the same tastes currently are, and also manages to rock.

myself and others who've been lucky enough to hear them or catch a show (they did opening duties for the modest mouse tour last summer) tend to be excited and raving about this band; personally, i think that they're going to be one of the buzz bands later this summer and fall, and that they'll do very, very well after releasing an album and doing a proper tour....
