I don't buy this because since October more people have latched onto this board than the old CMJ board.

but the old CMJ board is dead. mostly because of the breakdowns and us leaving.

But that doesn't explain the new people who have found us and the total lack of people who have stumbled across CMJ. CMJ is somebody whereas we are but upstarts and still nobodies, yet we have added quite a few members since our inception and CMJ has really added maybe one or two.

One day the CMJ board will be up, running, and not completely fucking retarded. I can't say that day will come anytime SOON. But it will rival obner in its avatar-loving, never-break-down awesomeness.

As for me,
1. Parts & Labor is recording a full-length album
2. I've recently acquired an amazing, beautiful gal to run with.
3. I'm trying to freelance more (so, ironically, I can buy more CDs)

So I can't spend so much time arguing with you guys about Eminem.

Fuck, when did i get a LIFE?

I hope it does. My interest in maintaining the board through haq attacks and db corruption is not likely to extend far into the future.

Well, I obviously don't have a problem, but I have a couple of friends that were driven away. Too much off-topic chat in the R'n'R forum. It'd be nice if people who were posting on NMR topic would start that in a different forum...hey! Where did the NSFW forum go? And the NMR forum go?...anyway, I know some people who would hang out in the music forum if it was more musically oriented in its discussion. If we could at least have a "general"/"OT"/"NMR"/"chant" forum for all the non-musical-related threads, a concerted effort by thread starters to actually start those threads in that forum (rather than just lazily starting it in the RNR forum), a concerted effort by the mods to actually just move those threads to the other forum when they don't get started in the wrong one (I.E. all sports threads), and a small amount of non-painful hand-slapping of the guilty parties when they do. I think all of those things could bring back...oh, I dunno, three people.

I've always been in favor of this, but it doesn't seem like many others do. People seem to like it the old CMJ way for some reason.

It's not that I don't like NMR threads. It just doesn't make sense to have them in a the 'Rock/Pop' forum. There are seperate forums for rap/hip-hop, mixes, lists and reviews. NMR threads, though, are lumped together with the music.

Me? I'm easily distract... Would you look at that shiny piece of tin foil... and I'm closer to the mocked than the mocker these days, so I lurk, I keed, and I await music and non-music related threads that amuse me. I think perhaps my (or most of the rest of your) funny bone(s) is(are) broken... damn osteoperosis.

How many people who joined here didn't learn about it through CMJ though. Probably not very many.

The lack of music related threads is related to the chilling isolation of the Obner environment.

It doesn't feel like there is any air circulation here.

Posting pictures in threads, rather than having to link to them, lowers the interest threshold required and makes people lazy and decadent like Romans during the decline of the empire.

Why do others always have to be the leaders, the initiators, the trendsetters...while those that are followers complain about the leaders, et al? Simply put, if people wish to have more music threads -- start some! Does a thread need a vast audience? No, but it might warrant a read or two. Does it make that thread a failure or uninteresting? Not necessarily. We all have different music tastes and what may not be interesting to the multitudes may be to a handful. Trust me, SOMEONE'S curiosity will be piqued.

The least interesting thing about Obner is people complaining about a lack of music threads. All you have to do is click "New Topic" to start one.

Well said, sir. And with that sir mod, you may delete this entire thread and be done with it or allow it to stew, stew, stew.

Thank you for your input one and all

honestly, most of the recent posts have just been boring. fuck being music related, that's got nothing to do with it.

it's also been nice to get outside and ride the bike a bit more [even in the rain].

meh CMJ in its last days was similar to this- little music posts, more "look at how witty I am" posts- Not hatin', just sayin'

I look elsewhere for music commentary, and only post because Im afraid to go outside..

Yeah, I though segregation was put to an end for the most part in the 60's....It's not like this board is flooded with 1000 NMR posts per day...Lately it seems like there is no more then 20-30 new topics per day...Certainly easy enough to scroll through in two seconds to see if something interestes you...but to follow the crowd, you want mre music posts, start em...easy enough....

i think one forum is enough for the most part.

WE ARE OBNER. WE ARE UNIVERSAL!

This thread kind of makes me sad. It sounds like most have lost that Obner-lovin' feeling, including Haq. If Obner does end up becoming extinct, will everyone return to the CMJ BB? Or have bulletin boards simply lost their allure for all of you?

Man, I don't think I've ever been this Internetedly bummed before.

I think it's a little of both Bob.

Heck, even I'm sick of the internet these days and use it for family stuff and research more then boarding. I'd rather read.

Anways, yeah, people need to stop complaining and start making threads of their own if they don't like stuff they see. Stop sitting around waiting for someone else to entertain them.

But I think it's just an attitude that the whole thing/boarding has lost it's allure. We're all a bit more adjusted in our lives and happier, which keeps us busier and away from the net.

And the fact that not a lot musically has been appealing to the masses these days says a LOT about the lack of music threads. Hell, I haven't come across one album this year that's excited me in the least. And that's odd.

The board goes through lulls occasionally but always bounces back.

I think some people have just moved on not because of anything wrong with the board, but other things in their lives have taken priority.

The weather has gotten nicer. People aren't hanging inside as much.

Students on the board have probably been studying and shit.

Maybe some people were scared off a bit by the entire Cap Squirrel
incident.

The NMR topics are not a problem. I love many of the political, book, movie, tv topics and I think so do others. Even topics that stray further are good if they are interesting-TimmyJoe's house thread. Perhaps, though, WE ALL need to think it over for a sec before posting stuff like the argument you just had with your boss, your in-laws coming for a visit etc.

I think the Atlanta crew have been great for the board. The only thing I can think of that may be offputting to some is that they are all very strong personalities. Not their fault. That's them. Would you really have Loogar any other way?

Maybe some people have been turned off by a bit of nastiness that sometimes pervades the board. Intelligent argument is fine and fun. Some "mother" jokes between guys who know each other is okay. Others, however, safely hiding behind their keyboards, just seem to think that they can say ANYTHING to anyone.

I want to make it clear that I'm not excluding myself from the above observations.

Just 0.2 from a regular member who nevertheless likes his outsider status.

As always, I probably don't don't know what the hell I'm talking about.

I find that there's always plenty of music-related topics, but people just don't post in a lot of them so they move to the bottom pretty quickly.

i frankly like the non musical posts more than the music ones - I read a bunch of music websites, magazines, etc. - re-hashing the greatness of albums we all own gets to be boring sometimes.

i do like to hear recommendations for new music but really as I have toned down my cd buying I have all the recos I need for awhile - still catching up on 1994.
