I just heard "Nothings Gonna Stop Us" by Starship at the grocery store. Grace just straight goes too far at the end of the song. Jesus. It was so frightening that I was mesmerized right there in the produce section.....

Anybody else think of any?

Love me some CCR but Fogerty's howl can be a bit much in several Creedence songs.

Fortunate Son-passionate. that's fine
Born On The Bayou-What the hell are you so worked up about?

My friend used to say that Steve Marriott sang every song as it it were The Most Important Song In The World.

But I think he meant that in a good way. I know that I do.

Listen to "Afterglow Of Your Love" for a prime example.

Nobody defines over the top quite like Meatloaf... or the Red Rocker.

Or listen to Humble Pie's Eat It for proof that he meant it in a bad way.

'All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You" by Heart indeed qualifies

(Or, as my brother used to sing when this was full force on the radio 'All I Wanna Do Is Take A Bat to You')

also, in the words of Busty "eccch"

The end of "Hey Jude." I hold McCartney personally responsible for the worst qualities of Aerosmith (I know it's hard to tell which are the worst, but it's mostly the constant "yeah-y-ya-yeah-yeah-yeahhhhh" crap).

That was one of the first Heart songs I ever heard. Can you really blame me for hating them for years afterwards.

"Baracuda", "Crazy On You", and "Magic Man" on the other hand are pure genius.

Oh gosh... I just remembered... the Queen of over-the-top vocals performances = "Oh Bondage, Up Yours" - X-Ray Specs.

When I think of over the top vocals for some reason the first thing I think about is people over-singing the National Anthem.

I fucking hate it when people think they can whip out their best Boys II Men/Whitney Houston impression when singing it.

Just sing the fucking song like it was written. This isn't American Idol you no talent hack!

That's funny. I once heard a bootleg of Plant doing Immigrant Song and he sounded like Tarzan with throat cancer.

Hall from Hall and Oats over did it a bit (on a few things) @ the end of Maneater I think.

"The woman is wild OOOOOOOOOOO"

But I'll listen to that song ANYTIME it comes on the radio.

One of my main pet peeves of this era. Christ, I was at a funeral a few months ago and the biatch singer went all American Idol on "Amazing Grace". I was ready to frisbee the Book of Psalms at her.
