i know most of you will consider this a very nice problem to have, but if you could put envy aside, i need some help.

due to some unusual circumstances, astralwerks has sent my wife a shitload of cds. we have already removed what we want, and now there is a sizable stack of stuff either don't like or don't know about. i don't really want to keep anything extraneous because we are moving across the country next week. i don't have time to listen to all of this either.

so, i need y'all to tell me which of the following i can't live without (and riyl wouldn't hurt):

the golden repunblic - s/t
brian eno - music for films
bian eno - thursday afternoon
brian eno - discreet music
brian eno - more music for films
vhs or beta - night on fire
air baricco city reading
west indian girl - s/t
22-20s - s/t
a band of bees - free the bees
turin brakes - jack in a box
radio 4 stealing of a nation
the dissacociatives - s/t
caesars - paper tigers
beta band - the 3 eps
kraftwerk - minimum maximum
k-os - joyful rebellion
athlete- tourist
the 101ers - elgin ave breakdown revisited
pheonix alphebetical - s/t

Its 20 CD's...if I had to choose, id keep the brian eno's, 22-20's (I actually like them), radio 4, beta band, kraftwerk. But a case could be made for just throwing all 20 in your trunk and not making a decision

I wouldn't call any of those essential. Still, I'd probably keep the Enos and 101'ers.

101'ers were Joe Strummer's first band, pre the Clash. Its pub rock, not punk and really not all that special but its at least worth hearing.

Toss the VHS or Beta. I'd keep the rest.

I'd keep the Brian Eno cds, Beta Band 3 EP's and maybe K-os.

I've only heard 1 K-Os song, but it made me interested in him. His cd is always $16 when I see it in the store, though. Kind of indie backpacker rap, I'd guess.

I'm partial to the bees album, it's a nice sixties inspired warm weather album.

If I couldn't listen to the others, I'd keep these (though, secretly, I'd keep them all):

brian eno - music for films
bian eno - thursday afternoon
brian eno - discreet music
brian eno - more music for films
22-20s - s/t
a band of bees - free the bees
turin brakes - jack in a box
radio 4 stealing of a nation
caesars - paper tigers
beta band - the 3 eps
kraftwerk - minimum maximum
athlete- tourist

My suggestion? Put these in a box and ship 'em off to me. I've been eyeing these in the store for months now. I WANT.

I'd hold onto the Eno and Beta Band "3 EPs" - the rest can go for Beef Jerky money for the ride...

Um, I love Astralwerks stuff.

I'd like to have all of those, especially the Eno. Let me know if you want to sell or give away some of those. I'm interested.

i am going to give what i don't keep to charity. i would hate to chose one of you over the others.

i have made my decisions on all of them except for the golden republic and phoenix. i am going to try to listen to them today.

I know it's too late, but what the L?

brian eno - music for films
bian eno - thursday afternoon
brian eno - discreet music
brian eno - more music for films

There was a Doonesbury cartoon, wherein Babs and the guy in the football helmet (I don't remember his name, Babs' husband or something), and she says, "I bought this new-age record at the store today". Second frame has them looking at each other in silence. Third frame, he: "It's playing right now, isn't it?" She: "It's called 'Air Pudding' -- kind of non-intrusive, don't you think?"

I think they were thinking of Brian Eno's experiments in ambient when they wrote this cartoon.

air baricco city reading

This is some bizarre shit. A guy doing Italian spoken-word over background music. Worth hearing...once...

west indian girl - s/t

This is surprisingly good songcraft, I'm wondering what it's doing on Astralwerks. Kind of what shoegazer bands sounded like after stopping being shoegazer.

radio 4 stealing of a nation

RIYL Joe Jackson.

beta band - the 3 eps

RIYL Paul McCartney (lead singer reminds me of him) if he were a lot more experimental

kraftwerk - minimum maximum

RIYL Kraftwerk

play them during your cross country drive, throwing the ones you don't like out the window as you work your way thru the list to save gas money.
