I read something on TinyMixTapes about Ruins and it sounded intriguing, so off I went to AllMusic to listen to samples. I fell in love and while out at lunch to pick up CDs, I grabbed the one and only Ruins CD they had - Vrresto, the 2004 remix (2005 release in the US, apparently.)

Like Mike Patton,I guess this guy has a ton of stuff out there besides just Ruins, right? What's a good route to take through his what looks to be complicated catalog? It looks like I have a new obsession!

I like me some Ruins. They put out some truly insane albums for Alternative Tentacles in the 90s. I believe they're Japanese too, so get you some Boredoms or Merzbow for more of the same.

Hilariously weird. If you like Mike Patton's freak-outs in Fantomas, you'll love this - actually, it's slightly more song-like than Fantomas. I can't wait to play this for my wife later. She just loves it when I find something like this!

Two songs available here: http://www.skingraftrecords.com/audio.html

... along with other people's songs as well.

I dig.

I might check it out when the tour comes this way.

RIYL:Lightning Bolt, Fantomas, Boredoms. Simple enough.

I just bought Tzomborgha recently. Based on only that, they're not as distorted as Lightning Bolt, not as monolithic as Boredoms, and not as (fill in the blank, I don't own any Fantomas) as Fantomas. They've got maybe a little too much of that Zappa/Zorn start/stop thing I don't so much care for, but I'm liking it more than my first listen would have predicted.
