Yes, you are missing out. Pick up the remastered version if you can. Lots of interesting goodies on there. I thought the whole restoration of the film special feature was cool. They basically took a horribly archived film with very poor sound and made it into something beautiful. Plus some interesting interviews, present-day. I think the remastered version also includes the entire Who set on the Rolling Stones tv special, whereas the theatrical release only included a portion. (The joke was that the Who blew the Stones off their own show).

Saw the film at it's premiere in S.F. back in the day (79?)
I can still see the performances in my head when I listen to the soundtrack. Must get this DVD.

not as good as the on on the Rolling Stones' Rock and roll Circus, which is in my mind the greatest rock performance ever caught on film.

And Cotton, the performance on the Rock and Roll circus is the entire Who set, not just a snippet.

well, actually it's only the one song. they supposedly played a few, but nobody remembers anything about that show apparently. i know it's the whole song, though. i watch it pretty steadily.

Oh, no, I wasn't saying you were wrong about the song, but I would guess that your VHS version doesn't have the entire performance, only a part of it. I don't think they extended that scene until this new dvd came out.

There is a section/scene in the Kids Are Alright movie that shows their performance from the Rock and Roll Circus program. The original theatrical release of TKAA did not have the entire RARC scene in it, but only bits and pieces. This new remastered version of TKAA has the ENTIRE performance from the RARC show.

I'm pretty sure the whole performance has always been in the film (long before the full Rock & Roll Circus was ever commercially available), but my old copy's in storage so I can't prove it.

It's the complete "Quick One" on the soundtrack album, if that means anything.

Big fat fucking thumbs up to the fiasco on the Smothers Brothers show at the opening of TKAA. Surely one of the greatest mondo-retardo rock 'n' roll moments ever caught on film.

Was home sick today, and pulled this out. I haven't watched it probably in 10 years. Bought the remastered 2 disc set at Wallyworld for $9.72 (!!!) and just hadn't had time previously.

The transfer is gorgeous, and I can say wholeheartedly that if someone asked me why I love the Who so much, I'd just pop this in. Pete's bravado, Roger's stage presence, Keith's antics and drum playing, and of course the quiet cool of Mr. Entwhistle.

One of the coolest features on the 2nd disc is the isolated bass tracks on Won't Get Fooled Again, and The Kids Are Alright. Damn. Very cool to watch him work his magic, and hear how smooth those lines were.
