I've been saying it for years. Florida is the most backwards state in the union. People think Florida is beaches and old people, but in my experience that's the top of a deliverence iceberg.

People who think Florida is beaches and old people are people who get their facts from People Magazine, Entertainment Tonight, and MTV.

Not that I'm at all interested in a "my state's better than yr state" argument, but I'll stand up and say very loudly here:

I lived in Louisiana for 4 years, and the concentration of ignorance is nothing short of astounding. Far more per square mile than anywhere I have EVER been.

The flaccid penis of America. I think we should start at the Alabam line and dredge the fucker all the way to Jacksonville. Kick it out of the union. Eccchhh.

By which you mean, stopping at the southern limit of Jacksonville proper, as without J*ville, there would be no 'World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party' nor annual butt-whomping of the Gators by your boys from UGA.

Maybe I can go to Cape Canaveral and fly rockets into restricted airspace or something.

Tentoze I don't know where you lived, but I openly agree that Louisiana has a large amount of it depending on where in the state you live. No doubt. In fact every state in the south has a large amount of it depending on location. All I'm sayin' is when you get away from the big cities and resorts areas Florida has the scariest backwood population I've seen. I'm not trying to offend anyone, as I live close to another backwards ass place.

...and then no corresponding boom in unplanned births 9 months later. Highest occurrence for both states, year after year, is 9 months after that weekend.

go dawgs.

If you wanna see scary, no need to travel all the way to Florida. Take a day trip to Bunkie or Fordoche. I lived in BR...technically, in Baker, a suburb of BR. And I ain't offended- just have to represent a little......

Ouch.

Ouch? I was being serious! Who are you?

(grumbles about people changing their goddamn names -- how the hell am I supposed to keep up?)

Lockstock or what have you. It's Spencer Tania. Yeah, people will ya stop changing your damned names?? Cause there's a few of you here even I'm not sure of who you are, yet I know I should.

:domokun:

Well, dammit, consider me informed now. Thank you, Jen.

And, Spencer...maybe if you weren't a stranger these days, my feeble brain would remember your multiple names! :P

(edited cuz I can't f'ing type today)

PS -- Doesn't mean I love ya any less.

I lived in Baton Rouge for 7 years. Baker might be backwards but BR isn't. Been to Bunkie. No where near as bad as Dulac, LA. I was sure parts of Mississippi was the most backwards and parts of Louisiana and Alabama were 2nd, until I took my scenic adventure in FLA. Yeah but when it comes down to it, we both have enough backwardsness for 10 states. :D

I'm going to be in Orlando from July 5-7 and Daytona Beach from July 7-10 for a family reunion and a wedding. Where in Orlando can I see a decent show (any good venues)? Is there any cool, interesting places I should check out (bars, musuems, events, cultural attractions, etc)

The first person to say Disney World (or any amusement park for that matter) gets shot.

Gracias,

Lock

Florida is a cesspool. In Orlando, The Sapphire Supper Club was a good place to catch a rock show. I heard the name got changed to The Social, or something dumb like that.

about 40 miles south of Daytona is the best restaurant in FL, and it won't cost you an arm and a leg... Dixie Crossroads on RT. 50 about a mile west of US 1.

Not very good in July, buddy. Last show I saw there was PTL with Ida opening up. THAT was a good show.

Dinosaur Jr. with Elf Power on 7/7 at HOB.

and this is the place to eat...

Oh shit, Bunkie. I went there once and stopped in a little gas station to fill up. On my way in to get a drink, I opened the door to see six or seven guy sitting on folding chairs in a semi-circle facing the door. Right as I walk in, one chirps angrily, "Hey now, don't step on the heater." Confused, I look down and see a fucking hot plate on the highest setting sitting on the floor. As if that weren't disconcerting enough, it then occured to me that it was rainy out, but still a not-too-cool 50-55 degrees outside as well as inside the store.

Never went back to Bunkie out of the fear of anal destruction executed on the whim of six guys in a small gas station.

I went to the Dubach Chicken Festival every year though, that was a blast.

Being from South Florida , have to let you guys know that there is a huge difference between Central/North Florida and South Florida. South Florida is probably one of the most diverse parts of the country. Yes , we have tons of beaches , old people , clubs , casinos , etc..... just about anything you want....you can get. With that being said , anything North of Palm Beach County is pretty much what you guys are describing.

Alright, alright, we get it already. You and Dalen are the most cultured and sophisticated Obnerites. Don't rub it in.

If someone wanted to do that trenching thing just south of Ocala and let the bottom half float off, I'd throw a few bucks in the pot.
