....has been getting a lot of play from me in the past couple months. Damn, "The Concept" just never gets old for me. This might crack my Top 25 of the 90's (famously enshrined in a now lost and gone forever CMJ thread) if I redid it today. Maybe time for a redux of that one.

God, what fucking gold brick fell in front of the studio before they recorded this shit?

yeah, brilliant album. I can't choose between that or Songs From Northern Britain as my favorite. both are amazing.

I remember a couple of months ago hearing "Star Sign" on the kid's WB early on a Saturday morning. It woke me the fuck up.
I love that record.
I remember when they played SNL (spring 92) with their spazzy drummer.

It's too bad "The Concept" descends into that extended coda of wankery, because otherwise it'd be perfect... but I guess that's the, um, concept 'n' all.

'Bandwagonesque' was released in 1991 I think - my first year at college.

It was a real eye opener for me. Not only was it a great album but most of the members of the band came from in or near my home town on the outskirts of Glasgow and it made me release there was actually a very good local music scene. I'd had no idea before this record. I'd just assumed all music came from some mythical Planet Rock and certainly not from....well....here.

It blew my mind that someone like Kurt Cobain was hanging out on dindgy old Bellshill High Street because he worshipped OUR bands! Since then I've always kept an eye out for good local bands which, lucky for me, Glasgow has consistantly produced ever since.

My favourite track on the album is 'Alcoholiday' - for the record.

Brilliant. As is Grand Prix and Songs. I really should look into their other albums.

Yo robotboy is the end of that one song of yours that starts out "she's magnetic" kind of inspired by the end of "The Concept"?

I like 'em both for the record.

I can't get into it either.

I love Grand Prix, though.

bandwagonesque is my favorite tf album and one of my favorite albums of all time. it also holds one of my favorite songs, 'december'. when i hear that song, i'm immediately transformed into a lovestruck 17 year old.

ahhh... i can't wait for this tour.

Teenage Fanclub Fun Fact : that album cover cost them a pretty penny, as the artwork was really similar to Gene Simmons' "Simmons Records" logo. He sued, & they had to cough up some dough.

I love "Bandwagonesque" but at the same time think it's overrated a bit. And for anyone who loves this album but has never heard Big Star...well, you need to rectify that.

You know it's weird. I've seen the cd brand new for 6/7 dollars in many stores, also grand prix. i remember DGC records was selling there cds cheaper than most other labels at one point...you could get That Dog's "Retreat From The Sun" for 7 bucks when it first came out. i'd want to learn more about this but really i don't care, i just want me some awesome tunes.

I know big lists are subjective as hell, but I was kind of surprised after reading SPIN's 100 Greatest Albums 1985-2005, to NOT see Bandwagonesque, after having named it their album of the year in 1991.

Haven't listened to it in awhile and will spin it in the next 48 hours.

Honestly, I think Spin's still a little embarrassed that they named "Bandwagonesque" #1 in the Year Of Nirvana. They kinda never lived it down...could be why they didn't put it in the Top 100 list. You know, outta sight outta mind.
