Hey all of you LA based Obnerieans who are also Catherine Wheel fans. (Tania - THIS MEANS YOU,lol) Looks like Rob Dickinson is playing a solo show at The Hotel Cafe on Tuesday, July 12th at 10PM. I'm sure he'll be doing a bunch of stuff off of his forthcoming solo album - so hopefully one of you can check it out and clue the rest of us in on how it all is :)

Here's a link for those interested:

I love the Hotel Cafe -- a wee spot that indulges intimacy. Oh gosh, I'm fuckin' excited! Thank you so so much!

I hope he breaks out some Iron Maiden classics.

Seriously, though Catherine Wheel opening for Maiden. How horrendously awesome would that be?

I'd totally go if it were Bruce Dickinson...

He puts on his pants the same way that I do - one leg at a time. The only difference is that, once his pants are on, he makes gold records.

Someone seriously should go to the Rob show and yell for, say "Aces High." And you've gotta wear a Maiden shirt, too.

Do you think he's said, "That's my cousin, you arse," a million times?

Not my thing, so I won't be going... plus I'm tired from going to a show last night.

I'm hoping it doesn't get sold out. The Hotel Cafe is teeny tiny.

So Tania, did you make it?? Someone on a CW list that I'm on went and I'll post his review here if you didn't make it.

Post It!

Is it the old 'Texture L' list?

I used to read that circa Adam and Eve CW..

I really miss them and can't wait for Rob's Solo CD. He IMHO started the whole falsetto brit singer trend lately. Much under-rated.

'Texture L' - simply known as 'Texture' these days is still going strong but this was on a group that is specifically devoted to Rob's upcoming Solo release - the group name is "All_of_That"(I didn't come up with it).

At any rate here is the review provided on that list by Christopher Balonek:

Just saw Rob's show at the Hotel Cafe in L.A. tonight.
His performance was amazing - no sign of rust after
all this time - although he did made a joke onstage
about being nervous. He sang with real passion and
the new songs are incredible - probably some of the
most introspective and sensitive lyrics of his career,
very Adam and Eve but with a bit more personal wisdom
mixed in. After hearing these tunes, even in slightly
stripped-down form, I cannot wait for this album -
I'll be buying copies for friends, maybe even two for
myself so one can just live in my car. He was backed
by another guitarist, keyboards, and an upright bass.
There were a lot of cameras and camera phones, so
there may be some pics out there soon (sadly I didn't
bring mine).

The Setlist (As I remember it):
My Name Is Love
Oceans
The Night
Towering and Flowering
Intelligent People
Black Metallic

Rob received a near standing ovation after every
number and seemed genuinely touched by the turnout and
enthusiasm. Afterwards Rob was approached by a bunch
of well-wishers, who just like me expressed their
appreciation for the show and being able to hear this
gifted performer again in such an intimate setting.
He took the time to give everyone a few seconds for
pictures and conversation - a real class guy. He even
drove the famous gold Porsche...it was the first thing
I saw when I parked in the lot, and at that point I
could feel that five years of waiting was about to
culminate in a great show - and was I ever right.

As it turns out, I didn't go. After sitting in horrendous traffic just trying to get to the damn place (going down Cahuenga from Sunset to Hollywood Blvd took almost an hour), I went hope utterly frustrated. My coworker went and I've been too busy to ask him how it went. He did make one comment -- "It was SWEEEEEEEET! And I gotta give him a hug, Tania!" He's a huge fan and was ecstatic that I had informed him of the show.

Anyway, he's performing again later this month and I plan on going to that.

My friend (and coworker), Bobby, gave me a review which basically masked that of the BB'er. His only complaint was that the set was too short and wished he had played longer. He did mention that after the show, he walked up to Rob and said, "Hey, I've got a couple of Iron Maiden albums I'd love for you to sign." Rob responded with a somewhat serious look, "I wasn't in Iron Maiden." "Duuuude, I'm know! I'm sorry, I was just teasing you." Then, proceeded to give him a big hug. Luckily, Rob has a good sense of humour and laughed it off.
